I finally took the plunge and purchased an MVP after using GBPVR for ~3 yrs since my dedicated GBPVR box (and its video out card) died. I've since made my new day-to-day computer which runs Vista my GBPVR machine and plan to run the video to my TV via the MVP. I hope to receive the MVP in a day or two.

I've since seen that people have had various issues getting the MVP to work with Vista and GBPVR and had to resort to different dongles. It appears that the most success has come from the mvpmc dongle, although I've seen some people have tried the new Hauppage dongle.

Since most people only post when there is a problem, it is difficult to determine whether any particular solution works best. Does anyone have a stable working setup with Vista + MVP? Any good advice?

I have been using the Feb 18, 2008 build of mvpmc with Vista for the last month. I think my MVP is more stable now than at any point previously. My only gripe is it seems to miss the remote commands occasionaly.

I'am using the same dongle as Steve and my only problems have been the Vista firewall. I had to do a number of power offs on the MVP after resetting the firewall to get MVP to work but it does. This dongle seems to be very smooth and though I haven't used it much since updating it, I can tell the difference.

Thanks to all that responded, I'll have to give mvpmc a try first. I hope that SP1 smooths out any remaining issues / improves stability.

EDIT: mvpmc does a great job, but I highly recommend the alpha version of the dongle for vista. I found the older version to be less stable in menu navigation. Thanks Martin!
