Hi all,

I had been using GBPVR on a XP machine with a PVR150 tuner and 3 MVPs for years with no problems. I just replaced my XP machine with a Vista Ultimate 64-bit PC. I need some guidance on getting GBPVR & MVP working under this new platform.

I'm confounded by all the acronyms as I search the forum.
Can anybody give me some short explanations for:
MVPMC ?
NMT ?
Dongle.bin ? (GBPVR's Config says dongle.bin not compatible w/ Vista. What does that mean - do I need a "dongle"?)

Any tips on how to get this all working?

What I've done so far:
- noticed that Vista 64 had native driver for PVR150 tuner card - is that ok?
- installed Hauppauge's MVP software (2/2007 release I believe).
- installed latest GBPVR software.

My MVPs are unable to contact the server. My Vista PC is set to use same IP address as old XP PC. Do I need to disable Vista's firewall or just add an exception to it?

I do not see MediaMVP processes running like I would under XP, even though I defined 2 MVPs in GBPVR's Config utility. Does it functuion differently in Vista? Maybe this is a "dongle" thing?

Utterly confused Smile

TIA,
-Mike

I'm making a little progress: I disabled Vista's firewall and then my MVP did detect a server and display the Hauppauge MVPMedia menus. Then I did something (disabled Hauppauge MVP... services?) and got the GBPVR menu to display. Then I tried to power the MVP off and on, and now I do not get either GBPVR or MediaMVP menus...

Should the two Hauppauge services, MVPMedia(GUI service) and MVPMediaSvc(Content service) be running for GBPVR to function?

Do I still need to find some alternative "dongle.bin" thingy?

I'm sure there must be a "Vista/GBPVR/MVP for Dummies" sticky on this forum somewhere - I'll keep searching...

Downloaded the mysterious (to me at least) dongle from MVPMC.org and copied to C:\Program Files(x86)\Devnz\gbpvr\dongle folder. Now the MVP shows something about MVPMC.org when it powers up.

I sure wish I had an outline of what all these things are/do...

One cool discovery - the mysterious MVPMC dongle looks like it sends out a Wake-On-Lan packet to the server - so now I won't have to walk downstairs to wake up my server Smile

Here is a link on installing mvpmc for GBPVR, http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=3...ostcount=3 and to answer some of the mystery there is a whole forum devoted to mvpmc and GBPVR here http://forums.gbpvr.com/forumdisplay.php?f=30 for your support questions.

And yes, mvpmc does send a WOL after you connect to the server.

I hope it sends the WOL before trying to contact my GBPVR server, otherwise it's futile...

Thanks for the other info - I'll see if I can make heads or tails out of all this techo-babble Smile
