I am wondering what capture quality you guys recommend? When I go to record a show under "quality" live tv isn't there. Is using high overkill for cable?

thanks

Medium seems to capture as good as a store bought DVD viewed on my Panasonic TV. I haven't had a reason to record at "High" yet.

Thanks for the replies, I think I'll just keep it at medium.

Just to add my 2p worth. I've tried different settings just to see how they looked but as I use my GB-PVR setup as a replacement for my VCR (I record, watch then delete), I decided to stick with Medium.

We get good quality TV reception where I live but all the tapes I use in the VCR have been used over and over - even at Medium the GB-PVR recordings are better than the VCR quality.

On the other hand, if there was a classic film, say, that I wanted to keep and burn to DVD then I'd up the capture quality.

I tweaked the medium setting a little because I have plenty of disk space and decided I wanted just a little more quality.

You need to be careful using the high setting if you ever plan to create DVD's with the recordings as the peak bitrate is higher than the DVD standard. If you are using the high setting and want to create DVD's, you probably want to drop the peak bitrate to about 8400.

Thanks for the tip - I'll bear that in mind. I'm fairly new to this game - I'm more used to digital audio than video. I've done some stuff with VCD to CD-ROM but only just bought my first DVD burner and haven't tried it out yet.

Cheers,
Brian
