You would have always been needing to run xmltv somehow. GB-PVR wouldnt have been running I-xmltv by default, unless you've scripted it yourself (ie, a windows automated task, or created a updateepg.bat file that runs it). All GB-PVR's xmltv reader does is read a xml text file, so that xml file full of listings has to exist before GB-PVR attempts to do its EPG update processing.

I was using I-xmltv with the release that supports Schedules Direct. GBPVR is set up so when I run EPG update it calls the I-xmltv batch file to do the download. This is because the version of GBPVR I have doesn't natively support SD. If I upgrade to a newer version, could I get rid of having to use I-xmltv?

GB-PVR has had native support for Schedules Direct for quite a while, so yes.

Guess I was a bit hasty in my joy. Its not working again. I have checked MTU with the ping -M do -s 1472 192.168.1.1 and also to yahoo.com from my linux firewall hooked up to my cable modem. Pinging inside my network, the 1472 number works between all machines, even the windows boxes running GB-PVR. I have to set the 1472 to 548 to get a good ping to yahoo, or anything on the internet, larget than 548 I get:
From c24-143-80-238.sea2.cablespeed.com (24.143.80.238) icmp_seq=1 Frag needed and DF set (mtu = 576)
Cablespeed being my ISP. I don't see any changing of that, so reading the forums at SD they mention setting --pad 40 in the grabber, so I wonder where I could do this in gb-pvr, or is that not possible and I have to look at 3rd party software.

The same "hack" isnt available in GB-PVR. Its only available if you use the xmltv client.

I think you and anyone else with this problem should harass Schedules Direct about. They're paying good money to TMS for their DataDirect service and they should get them to fix this problem.
