New machine, loaded nvidia decoders and have them set in dvd tab to the nvidia decoders and DVD navigator - not the Nvidia navigator which crashes back to the main menu.

Anyway, the dvd comes up but the root menu is in black and white. When the dvd plays, it seems to work ok. If I play this in WMP it all works fine.
Any ideas?

Using an ATI graphics card by any chance? Try not using the latest drivers, as I found 8.5 catalyst was doing that for me.

It is a 9600 pro so yes I'm using ati graphics. Still seems weird that wmp gets it right and gbpvr doesn't but I'll give that a shot.

an update of the ati drivers via windows update (silly I know) immediately broke my 9600 pro so I rolled back to 7.5 and left well alone.

Same issue with black and white menu on DVD?

didn't get that far, it was barfing earlier on in gbpvr.

Sorry, I didn;t mean to say that the drivers are definately the cause of your problem but later drivers definitely did give me problems with the 9600 pro.

Hmmm, same problem here on new rig with onboard ATI X1250 and latest Catalyst drivers - it didn't do it on my old NVidia GEForce setup. I thought it was just me, having been in "codec hell" for the last few days since upgrading.

I found that it does it with PureVideo or CyberLink codecs when using EVR, but they seem to be OK on VMR9 FSE. Intervideo and DScaler don't seem to have the same problem (but they have other problems instead - tearing and stuttering). I think I'll try rolling back to earlier ATI drivers and see if that fixes it so thanks for that suggestion.

Post what you find out. I upgraded to catalyst 8.5 last night and it still shows in black and white in PVRX2. Works ok in WMP.

installed dscaler mpeg decoder and used that for DVD instead of Nvidia one. Works fine now.
