This is discussed in several other threads. If you create a 'skin' subdirectory it'll start working.

I went out and purchased a sapphire HD 2400 pro.(agp8) the only one I could get my hands on.
I am pretty sure that the software is not using the hardware to decode the hdtv. My cpu is worse with this card than with my oriingal geoforce 6600
I have updated the latest driver to vers 8.493 407.zip from the site. That enabled 50hz on the component as well for us in NZ .
Performance is just as bad as before. However chammel 3 works for a bit rather than locking up straight away.
Also I noticed before that the software renderer would lock up at exactly the same place on the hd demo channel. when the big ray comes on scrren at the top right hand corner. it gets about 1/3 on scrren then locks up the display. Logs attached
I will have a look around on the forum noe its back up.
Good the Have you back Sub.

The ATI 2400/2600 devices are renowned for having flakey drivers (particularly the AGP models), and there is plenty of people that have problems getting acceleration working in all sorts of apps.
See http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=872538

I originally had a ATI 2600 Pro AGP model, but had all sorts of problems with it, and eventually giving up on AGP and buying a whole new system using PCIe.

It could also be that the version of the Cyberlink H.264 decoder you're using doesnt support hardware acceleration. Some versions of it required special per-application registry settings to be created before it'll try using the hardware acceleration.

Do you see the acceleration working in any app (WMP etc)?

No I see it working for divx mp4 but h.264 Is a nightmare still diging for threads I will check your last thread I dont want to scrap this system. I may take the card back and see if I can get a different one if the drivers are shot.
How much gpu should be utilised for 720p and 1080i
then I know when it is working :-)

I tried to check for you, but my DVB-T signal seems to not be functioning here since my return from overseas - like the antenna blew down while I was away. I'll check in the morning when its light out.

OK I think I have found the info it is some registry keys that need changing but I cant find the ones in the thread.

Hi Sub
Well I did not get to bed last night. However, I got the hardware acceleration. almost working on this dog of a HD2400 agp card. You have to install .net 3.5 the full version not the bootstap version (this has DXVA 1 bundled in it) reboot). Then run a nice script from the thread in the last post. That generates all the registry entries. re install the ati drivers again. re install powercinema again just in case.

What are the correct settings in the playback renderers. I am getting tearing accross the screen dvd or pre recoded from a h.264 source. cpu is low 10% gpu is from 25-50% on playback of a imported h.264 avi file
Live capture I just get a grey screen that you can just about make out some outlines on.
some times I get the odd frame one is dead and so is the hd demo channel. sound is present on 3.

I have not found a good explanation of what each one of those renders is used for.
I am just interested in the video settings wmr9 custom enhanced blah de blah.

What process's are they used for.

Dave

gpu is at 88-95% on ch3 1080i it actually looks on screen like it is looping through about 5 sec worth of bad capture and then starting again after a while the loop of video changes to a new set of images.

HD demo channel running at 25% gpu flashig screen no real images at all

channel 1 4% looks like it has given up on 1 3 still trying
yep it is definatly looping.

Video Renderers are the final step in the playback process, responsible for displaying each video frame on the screen. Over the years Microsoft have introduce new video renderers.

Overlay is the oldest. Its the most understood and well supported by video card driver manufacturers, but is limited in a lot of areas, most notably the lame looking OSD graphics. It doesnt allow for nice semi-transparent graphics on the video.

VMR was introduced with XP, but later retrofitted onto Win2K. The app provides it in two flavours. VMR9 Custom uses Direct3D to display each video frame to the display. VMR9 Fullscreen Exclusive is pretty much the same as the VMR9 Custom, but requests exclusive access to the video device when initialising things. This can result in slightly lower overheads, minimizing the likelihood of tearing etc.

EVR is the newest video renderer. Microsoft it has better color representation, and less prone to tearing. It is also the only renderer to DXVA2.0 for H.264 acceleration etc (but some decoder manufacturers like Cyberlink have implement non-DXVA2 acceleration support for when DXVA isnt available). EVR is offically Vista only, but was also provided in a cut back form on XP, but doesnt support hardward acceleration on XP.

Which should you use? Whatever works best for you. "one mans perfect video decoder and video renderer combination is another mans stuttering washed out mess". Too many variables to make a one size fits all suggestion.

Hi Sub
I have been posting in another thread as this thread was originally for the hauppage not working and now I know I have issues with HA rendering, so I placed it in the 2600 thead. I have not turned on the duff channels yet in pvrx2. I decided to get the good ones working correctly and then move over to fixing the ones that hang the app.

At present HA works on all channels except ch3 in aac or ac3. but only in tvbviewer it is watchable but it eats 80-90% of the cpu and drops frames occasionally. When I run pvrx2 now I get nothing. no video no sound it just locks up as soon as I click a channel, if it does not lock up it just returns back to the selelect a channel page (no video is shown). I may have made too many changes along the way. I will post my logs later.
However in the meantime any ideas why tv3 will not use the HA, i know its 1080i but the data rate looks the same when there is no HD broadcast as the 720p hd demo channel. I tried to use graphedit to check the path but I think I need some lessons on how to use that. unless you have a graph you can send me as a template please. I could not find the hauppage filters descriptions I seemed to need looking at the examples on the net. There are quite a lot of filters for my card though. Nothing referenced h.264 that I could recal.
