No pluginin author is compelled or should feel the need to develop any skin files other than blue. If they do, because it is a skin they use, well then, that is a bonus. Why wouldn't a plugin author release a copy of a 3rd party skin he/she uses as well? It will certainly cut down requests and bug reports for those few that use the same skin. It cuts out a link in the distribution channel. I think just we needed to clarify the fact that everything 3rd. party (skins, plugins, utilities) is subject to change and compatibility is not conditional with any skin besides blue.

One of the other moderators might close it, or sub, but it has been mostly civil with some value. Some of the tones on both sides of the discussion were probably more "blunt" than needed, if it heats up more I'll close it.

Plugin authors chimed in, the CommunitySkin developers gave their two cents, LewE stated his case. Maybe someone else may have something insightful to add. This thread will probably die of its own in a few days anyway.

Curious..

Reven had internal versioning in his MySeries plugins to check for compatibility. If the skin files didn't match, it defaulted to blue. I don't know if that would work in our case now with PVRX2 or not. There are some threads and posts that talked about this some time ago. That is another bonus feature if it can be worked out.

Reven put that in because he had lots of problems with non Blue skins. I think it may not be needed so much now as there are far fewer skins available now (look at the wiki history to see what I mean). Also his My Series plugins and skin files were a lot of work to maintain, the newer plugins tend to be smaller and the PVRX2 logic has made the Skining system more about the baseskin file (so less in the plugin skin file).

Yes. but it's good that it's got people thinking.

.

As a retired system-designer/developer I totally agree whith Fatman_do, GB-PVR IS the blue skin, any plugin, skin etc is "nice-to-have" (if it works). And what's wrong with the blue skin? It works, and is has all that you need.
