remote quits working after a while - ir.exe

A few days ago my UPS flaked out and my PVR machine rebooted several times. After that happened, the remote (Hauppauge) stops working after some time, until I reboot. If I try to restart ir.exe, I get the "failed to initialize infrared...." message. It's perplexing to me that it will work after I reboot, then no longer work.

I uninstalled/reinstalled the WinTV PVR software and that didn't seem to make any difference.

My second tuner card has a IR port but when I try to connect the IR receiver to it, it doesn't work at all. How do I tell IR.exe, or the IR driver, to use the IR port on the other card? I'd like to try that to determine if it's a hardware issue or not.

you can't get it to pick one card or the other unfortunately. You may be able to use the other card by physically swapping them around in the PC - mine always choose the top card - but this isn't guaranteed.
Sounds like a driver issue to me. Ir.exe needs to find ir hardware on both cards, even if it only uses one and it sounds like it's not. Run hauppauge hwclear and reinstall everything.

But it worked fine until a few days ago. Nothing changed. I even turn off Windows Automatic Updates so it doesn't update anything that would cause problems.

I would suspect IR.exe does nothing more than communicate with the driver and relay the codes to any listening application.... I suspect on TCP port or named pipe?

what kind of hauppauge tuners do you have? I've had remote issues with my usb-pvr2

A 150 and a 350. I tried the option for GBPVR to use the IR on my 350, bypassing IR.exe, and that doesn't seem to work either.

Tonight I'll reload the card drivers.... but am not hopeful, because again, this used to work just fine as is, with the existing drivers.
