For the last few days all recordings on one of my machines have failed to record. Directly entered recordings and all scheduled recordings have recorded only a few megabytes of information and then stopped. This is on a computer that has been working perfectly for a long time.

I am using version 1.2.9 with 2 Hauppauge PVR 150MCE capture cards. I don't know much about which log should show me what but I found this when I checked GBPVRRecordingService logs:

2008-08-30 15:47:01.328 VERBOSE Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Encoder
2008-08-30 15:47:01.328 VERBOSE Encoder.GetMedium(p656Pin) returns: {7D82C13C-452C-445F-A55E-90227B0F26C3}-007FD508-00000000

Error code : 80040207
DIERR_NOTBUFFERED & VFW_E_NO_ACCEPTABLE_TYPES
Attempted to read buffered device data from a device that is not buffered. & There is no common media type between these pins.

2008-08-30 15:47:01.343 VERBOSE ConnectFilters@2 got source pin
2008-08-30 15:47:01.343 VERBOSE ConnectFilters@3 got dest pin

Can someone tell me if I am looking in the right place and what this means?

I have attached all logs in the directory also.

Thanks.

I dont think its related to the messages you've quoted above.

When you try to record, do you get a zero byte file, or partial file? If partial, is there any pattern to the size file you end up with?

When it is a recording that has been scheduled, it is a partial file but not always the same size.

I noticed that if I started a recording from the TV Guide by selecting "Quick Rec" I get a 0 byte file. If I then go back and select the file and select "Cancel" from the menu, nothing happens. It won't cancel and I still get a 0 byte file.

I have been using this configuration on this pc ever since version 1.2.9 was available. This has just started a few days ago.

Thanks for looking into this for me.

To be honest, I'm not really sure. Its never usually a good sign if you end up with a file greater than zero bytes, but less than full size. This usually means the capture device has stopped delivering data for some reason. For example, in the past some of the Hauppauge cards used to have a problem where they could spontaneously stop sending data if they were sharing an IRQ with another device.

Reproduce this zero byte problem, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

Isn't it always the case--take your car to the mechanic and it seems to be running fine--go to the dentist and the tooth stops hurting.

When I tried to recreate the condition that I described to you, this time PVRX2 seemed to freeze the system. I could still do other things, but PVRX2 would not respond and the screen would not refresh properly. I finally had to push the reset button in order to reboot the computer. When I restarted the computer twice before it did not help the recording problem.

This time it seems that everything is back to normal after restarting the system. It is recording from schedule, from "Quick Rec", and manual recordings. None of these have been working for almost a week.

I guess there was something else going on that was interfering with my GBPVR configuration. At this point I don't know what it was. Whatever was interfering has decided to play nice for a while. Since I can't recreate the problem, there is nothing for you to check for me.

Thanks for the willingness to help. I really do appreciate it.
