I'm sorry - checking EVR gives the error "sorry this system does not support the required vmr9 video render".

I also checked and have DX9.0C installed.

Oh, ok, I guess I wasn't expecting EVR to give an error about VMR9, that threw me off, particularly when your thread title is about FSE.

The only thing I know about running EVR with XP is that you need .NET 3.5.

ok so why does the title say "whats required to run fse"
whats the end result you want
1 you want FSE
2 you want EVR
3 you want it to cook some eggs
im glad i wasnt the only one that didnt follow

as johnsonx42 said above, if you are trying to get EVR running on XP , you need to install .NET 3 or above.

OK - I got myself confused - I wanted to run EVR. I forgot FSE takes complete control of your PC and if GBPVR locks up you can't get back to the OS. I'm downloading .NET 3 now.

Installed .NET 3 and now I can run in EVR mode. What does EVR get me over the VMR9?

Possibly smoother playback, possibly nothing, it depends on your setup.

Were you experiencing problems with the other renderers before? i.e. are you trying to solve a particular problem or just experimenting?

Does EVR use different renders than the ones picked in the Playback section? Or does it just use them more efficiently?
