My cable provider (RCN) just stopped analog broadcast and switched over to QAM. I purchased a Hauppauge HVR-2250 and am having problems with it.

I have setup the new card in recording source (tried both 2250 and 2250QAM). I have also used schedulesdirect to setup EPG.

1) IN PVRX2, when I click on Live TV, nothing happens.
2) When I click on TV Guide, the overlay grids (Day, time, etc. flashes, and then pvrx2 responding). Last time I used EPG was before zap2it labs went away.
3) When I click on Map digital channels to EPG channels, config is able to map the channels but unable the preview screen shows just a blank screen. FFDSHOW asks permission to be used regardless of which video renderer I have setup as default (tried intervideo, nero, etc.)
4) The card works and is connected correctly. WinTV6 works.

How can I fix this?

Thanks in advance for your help.

It looks like you have zero enabled channels in your capture sources. Most likely due to not mapping the channels correctly.

Sub, Thanks. That was my problem, but now I am puzzled as how someone can map a few hundred digital channels short of spending an entire day doing it.

I realized that updating EPG to get the channels did nothing to actually map the channels.

Now under "Map digital channels to EPG channels.
1) I have a few hundred channels that I should receive
2) I have 78 channels that GB-PVR found. However
- Each channel has a few decimal channels up to x.15. They read from unkown* (000) to unkown (000(AC3)).
- I assume the (000) channels carry stereo and (000(AC3)) carries multi channel sound. I have a 2 channel setup, what's best to use?
- Many of these channels are blank (hence I thought the tuner weren't working
3) How can I map these channels? Quickly? I found CBS to be channel 27.1 (T:27,0,0~P:1~V:1984~A:1985~PMT:48~PCR:1984~N:>27.1 Unknown1* (000)), but my cable provider lists it as channel 2.

Is there any thing I can do? Any reference I can take advantage of to do this? How do cable providers map there channel listing. All the channel numbers (RCN designated) are so far apart and seemingly random. I believe there has to be a logic. If i want to find ESPN (RCN says channel 363), how do I find it?

How easy/hard it is depends on whether your capture provider transmits the channel names. QAM users fare the worst out of the various digital systems, since its the only digital system where the names are optional, and US cable operators tend to not transmit them. ATSC/DVB-S/DVB-T/DVB-C users all get channel names making the mapping process a lot easier.

Normally GB-PVR would put a * next to the channel the channel name if its unencrypted, which cuts down the list of channels signficantly, but unfortunately there is a bug in the current release which causes the * to show up for just about every QAM channel. There is a new release coming out this afternoon which corrects this.

I think some users have used the reference database on the silicondust website to help with the mapping process.

Quote:How do cable providers map there channel listing.
They use their own proprietary systems that are encrypted, not publically documented, and vary from cable company to cable company.

Some cable operators, like cablevision, make the job easier for you having "P:2" for channel 2, "P:103" for channel 103 etc. Your cable operator doesnt look they've provided anything convenient like that.

Thanks for all your help. Silicondust is very helpful. Link for people who might sumble on this thread.

I am looking forward to the new release. Is there any chance in a future release 1) to simply type in the QAM frequency for mapping 2) mark frequencies that are already mapped?

That new release is out now. http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=40078

No, because I need a lot more info than just the frequency. The scan has to be done to identify this extra info.

Quote:2) mark frequencies that are already mapped?
Yes, I could probably add that.
