I'm a little confused about which card to buy, I have two analog tv-cards (with HW-encoder) that takes care of sdtv, but I will soon have a tv-box for hdtv with scart-output (and possibly an USB-port). Is there a card on the market which can capture the hd-output from this box?

I suppose I will use an IR-blaster to change channel on the tv-box, but how do I solve the capture?

The only device that captures HD output from a set top box is the Hauppauge HD-PVR, which can capture up to 1080i via component video.

No, not that would be usable in GB-PVR. There is only one device that I'm aware of with a hdmi-input, but it can only record unencrypted hdmi (so pretty much only video from video camera unless you buy some hdcp stripping box), and it only records raw video files which are incredibly huge. This device is pretty much useless.

Well, I guess that the hdmi-cable that normally goes from the set-top box to the tv-set is unencrypted, else the tv could not display it. What card is it anyway?

It's not. It requires an HDCP capable display. The capture card is not HDCP compliant so the STB will not send the signal. If you had a non HDCP compliant TV, you wouldn't be able to see the picture either.

BlackMagic Intensity. I looked at it pretty hard when it first came out but it required too much space and a fairly speedy RAID array.

Ah, I see. Well, thanks anyway. It seems that the only way to get hdtv in is to piece together a dvb-c card and some soft-cam SW.
