Hauppauge now has upgraded MVP dongle so that it works in Vista.

I have had to use Win Mediacenter without my MVP for about 1 year now - and I miss my GBPVR functionality and to use MVP to start recordings etc.

(My XP computer broke down and I bought a new with Vista - I never got to get the MVPMC dongle to work for me so I had to use MediaCenter)

I now tested MVP with the new software and I can use the basic interface from Hauppauge to view MpEG on my Vista computer.
DVR-Ms files show a green on them but if I convert them to normal mpg everything works.

I reallly would like to get back to using GBPVR again - is it possible to use the new Vista dongle in GBPVR?

Have you tried MVPMC dongle recently? My impression was that the latest version works well with Vista for most people if a number of precautions are taken. I am not a Vista user, so I can't guide you. There have been a number of posts around this, specifically around user rights if I recall well. Search in the last 9 months.

The biggest change in recent versions with mvpmc for all GBPVR users is that you no longer need to create Windows share, GBPVR will transfer the dongle. This was always a stumbling block for many. It should be not be hard to configure, assuming your GBPVR has as static IP and I'd be glad to help you out.

I just checked the Hauppauge site and I don't see any major change, the official support still doesn't list Vista, that is still "beta" but it works ok. If you search this forum, I provide a link that should include all the beta "Vista" dongles for you to try. They do all work, and the newer versions are certainly better with GBPVR, but certainly not as good in general as the older dongle sub distributes.

If most of your recording are DVR-MS you likely could be disappointed too. Those require on-the-fly transcoding that is not always perfect.

Hauppauge havnt done any changes to the MVP in a long time now, so I'm not sure what you made think that. Your best is to try mvpmc as mentioned above.

I see now you are right the file is from 2007

but it does work with Hauppauge mediaserver running on Vista - but that does not help in GBpvr I suppose
