There are some quirks when using the HD-PVR for live tv. I noticed the same behavior as you with the .mpg extensions as well as additional problems because I use timeshift. I was not able to get the HD-PVR to work correctly with timeshift which is a must because I have several client when using the built in Analog HighDef Recording plugin. I setup it up using the graphrecorder plugin and it has been working great for a couple of weeks.

I do not have any playback problems with dropped frames as you described. I did have some issues with the Arcsoft decoders but have since switched to Cyberlink decoders using EVR on Vista and an ATI HD4550 so that I get hardware assisted decoding. This combination provides great playback for me with 1080 content on both timeshift and recorded material from the HD-PVR.

Thanks for your reply

I have since updated my video card drivers. Not sure why I never updated them since an install if xp a year or two ago... anyway I updated the drivers and hardware acceleration kicked in fine. I am using the arcsoft decoders and they work great.

I got my hd terminal box dct6200.

I have since recorded HDTV broadcasts with no problems to report. except when trying to record something in progress in the guide as it tends to record as mpg. Any upcoming programs are recorded properly as .ts and have never missed a beat.

I got the channel changer to work quite easily using hip and my pvr500 blaster. I told hip to learn remote numbers 0 - 9 and used hipsend to send them out as in the hip guide on the wiki. Channels change flawlessly with no missed changes.

I use the pvr500 dual tuner for my analogue channels 02 - 58 and the HDPVR to record channels 60 up. 60 and up are encrypted and require the set top box to view.

the HDPVR records at 1920x1080 and the picture looks excellent. Video is smooth and a 3 hour HDTV recording is about 10 gigs at default setting.

Thanks for the tips. working rock solid since Wednesday
