Hi everyone,

I´m looking for a bit of advice so hope you can help me. I have a dedicated PC to run GBPVR and a number of MVP´s connected to TV´s in other rooms. I am planning to rip all my DVD´s and store them on the PC hard drive, and what I´d like to be able to do is this:

1. Watch a movie from the hard drive using the PC and a 5.1 surround sound system, maintaining the surround sound.
2. Watch a movie on a TV in another room via the MVP´s, with normal sound through the TV´s speakers.

I know (through hunting around on here) that you can´t play DVD´s through the MVP, so is there a file type that I could convert my DVD´s to which would allow me to achieve the two aims above?

I'm doing exactly what you want to do using multimedia adaptors in many rooms.
I rip DVD's and then only save the .VOB files on the main pc. I delete the minor small .VOB files along with all the other rubbish ( because they're not required) and it works fine. Many rooms can watch the same films independantly of the others at the same time.
Also tv programs recorded using GBpvr also work ok.
Hope this helps.

Are you using the Hauppauge MVP´s to do this, as these are the ones I have?

This might work with mvp's but only if the audio is mp2 (or mp3 but that is never on a dvd afaik). Even then I'm not sure it will work, maybe if you rename the vob's to mpg.

What do you use to decode the VOB files into something that the Hauppauge MVP´s can understand? I was under the impression that they couldn´t natively play DVD files.
