So, I have been out of it for quite a while due to lack of time and the "recent" transition to digital cable and the set top box with Comcast. I see there are some movies coming on in the next few weeks I want to record, so I fired up the dusty old GBPVR machine.

I had run an old version of the software for seriously a couple of years, so I decided to update to the latest release. I think everything went alright, but I don't see an icon for GBPVR, just PVR2. Is that normal? If not, should I uninstall and resinstall?

Next question: I have a set top box from Comcast on the main TV. I would like to take the line coming out of the set top box and split it between my TV directly and the tuner. This way, I can run GBPVR and still have the normal functionality of the set top box (On Demand, etc.). Will this work? I currently have two PVR-150 cards installed on the machine. Since I have never changed anything since the transition to digital cable, what do I have to set in the config to get it to recognize the channels?

GB-PVR is PVRX2, so there's only 1 icon.

Well, I guess that is good news. Except, when I open PVRX2, I don't get any picture. It shows the outline of the window, and it appears transparent (shows my desktop). When I move the window around, it just distorts the background image. I'm guessing I should at least see the home screen. Any thoughts?

This is usually sign that your video card wasnt up to the direct3d tasks required by PVRX2, specifically the creation of large textures. Some people with older card have been able to resolve this by updating their videocard drivers, others have had to get a new video card.

My computer is old, but it always worked fine. It is a 932 MHZ P3 with 1 GB of RAM. The video card is an old Nvidia TNT/TNT2 Pro card.

I tried downloading the latest drivers from Nvidia, which were from 2005. It ran through part of the setup, but then said the software couldn't find any dirvers that were compatible with my hardware. So that doesn't sound like an option.

What would I need to look for in a new video card? Anything special? It would have to be cheap if my wife let me get one.

If I don't get a new video card, can I install an older version of GBPVR that didn't use PVRX2? This is just a background hobby, so I don't mind not having all of the latest functionality.

Thanks for the help.

Any modern nvidia/ati card should be fine.

Sure. You'd probably need to go back to 1.1.x to get the old GBPVR.exe user interface.
