Ripping to FLAC

Sorry if this has been covered; I've searched but not found it! How are people ripping to FLAC? I read on flac.sourceforge.net that Winamp was one way but even with a FLAC plugin, apart from saying it is processing and slowly churning through each tune, the end result is a Winamp playlist file

x2 It takes some reading and time to set it up correctly, but after that's done, "Compress" is the only button you'll ever press from there on.
