I think I found the problem. I noticed WPIX HD would also cause a lock up and using silicondust.com I found that all these channels were 1080i. I opened the nvidia control panel and unchecked "Use inverse telecine" under Deinterlacing. I'm not sure what inverse telecine is but without it I just watched a good 10min problem free. Thanks for all the input , sorry if I wasted your time.
