for a remote to work you need a ir receiver
to get a ir receiver you buy that with a remote (usb normally) computer shop should have one or look on ebay or the like
if you do that then use something like event ghost or hip(programs to listen to incoming commands and transfer them into key strokes) it should be able to learn the buttons pressed on the tivo remote

im guessing the tivo remote is ir for this to work

you could make the diy serial ir receiver using inexpensive parts from radioshack and make it work. would take some work but ive done it, its not too bad, good for learning and fun if you like that kind of thing. it can also respond from anykey on any remote you want it to. im not sure how reliable it is i only used it for fun really but i had no real problems with it. searching google for "diy serial ir receiver" will give you more info on whats needed

I am currently using my Harmony 785 remote with GB-PVR, but can use any IR remote with my setup.
I have a USB attached IR Receiver (effectively identical to the mentioned 'diy serial ir receiver', except I bought it pre-made) - sorry I cant remember where I got it from, years ago off the web somewhere.
I then use a program called 'Girder' to map the received IR signals from the IR Receiver to KeyStrokes understood by GB-PVR, as well as other programs (like PowerDVD).
So, yes it is all possible, but does require a fair bit of 'playing'.

Thanks I'll have a look at it Smile so I suppose I CAN'T do this with eventghost then?

I hadn't heard of Event Ghost before ... but looking at the website I dont see why you wouldnt be able to use it. In fact now that I have seen it, I will be looking at trialing and using it soon, as I also run X10 stuff in my house and it sounds like it may be a good and simpler replacement for Girder.
Getting late though, so I will install and try it in a day or two ... my only issue could be I'm running Windows 7 (64bit) ... but I should be able to sort that out.
