With GBPVR, mkv files were passed through to the native NMT player from GBPVR. This functionality does not seem to work for me on NPVR. Is this a known problem? Is there something special I forgot to configure for this functionality?

I just get the buffering screen from the NMT that seems just hang.

It still should be working. Without logs it's hard to say perhaps your files are on a share and you need to follow the posts to either use ShareHelper or run the NPVR Recording Service as a named user?

Note that the NMT's don't support mkv header stripping which is the default for mkvmerge now. I am using unreleased beta firmware that does fixes this but if you are creating these yourself just set compression to none or remux existing files.

I have attached my logs. The movie I was playing was "Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper.mkv" Don't laugh. It was around 3-4 pm today.

You might see where I sucessfully played it later in the logs as MPG. My girls demanded to watch it, so I made a MPG from the dvd image.

I pretty much need to restart the NPVR recording service when the attempted play of the mkv fails to regain system stability.

As far as a share, the file is local. I have tried couple different mkv over the last couple days without any success. I have been creating these MKVs with handbrake. I have not had any problems with any MKV files with GBPVR.

.33 is a bit of a mess with all the patches floating around. Did you apply this one (or newer) http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?...post391777

Yes, I saw that post too. The logs I sent are running with that patch. I thought that would fix it. I decided on making this post after determining that patch did not help. I installed the DLL by stoping the npvr service, coping the file into the npvr program directories then restarting the service.

I am confused by the patches too. There is another more recent one with same name that is related to high cpu usage, but that zip also includes the tray exe too. I was trying that using that one first, but then I backed tried this one. I was not sure if sub's patches have been cumulative.

Sorry, I don't know what to suggest other than hope sub can consolidate things. It has been rough supporting .33 these past couple of months.

For the most part, I'm only really posting patches so people can test fixes for me for the next release. Personally I'd be just as happy if people didnt download the patches, and instead waited for the next release to get the lastest fixes. Often these problems only effect some users, and pretty much the only way I can tell if the problem is fixed is to give the user the patch to try for me. If I wasnt posting those patches, then it's likely those issues wouldnt be fixed.

Martin, thanks for looking into this issue.

Sub, I have reverted back to no patches installed.

After installing 1.5.36 I can now play mkv files again. Thanks.

Is there anyway to play files with the m4v extension through NPVR to the the NMT? I can certainly play these directly on the NMT as a share or through myihome. If I try to play them from the NPVR videos menu, it either kicks me all the way back out to the NMT menu or back to the NPVR menu. I suspect I could just rename these to mp4 files and it would work. I would like to be able to keep the m4v extension though. The m4v extension appears to suggest the file may have multiple audio streams and chapter markers in the itunes, iphone and appletv ecosystem.

I also like to mention I tried adding m4v to the AllowedMediaExtensions section under MVP in the config file. That did not seem to help.
