I have trouble playing files with German Umlauts (ä, ö, ü) again on the NMT. NMT connection crashes and I am back to main menu. I am not sure though, if my problem is related. Files don't play from the video library either. Renaming files cures the problem, however, I can't go through recordings anymore, because the filename does not match anymore - of course.

I had this same problem some time ago, but it had been fixed by adding this to config.xml: <MVPUseShortFilenamesOnNMT>true</MVPUseShortFilenamesOnNMT> . However, that doesn't seem to work anymore.

Logs don't show much, except for the MVP server restarting.

Do you have more than one NMT? If so set the the count of servers to 1 and restart the recording service and try the test again. Also compress all the files in the log folder, you missed the web log plus the .1 .2 etc sometimes contain the information needed.

For some reason, the web-log wasn't created last time, that's why I didn't catch it. Could be, that it's only written, once there is a successful streaming event - which wasn't the case during the last tests.

OK, then did as per your instructions:
1) Set mvp servers to 1
2) Stopped service
3) Deleted all old logs
4) Restarted service
5) Tried playing 3 files on NMT: First w/ Umlaut in title (fail), 2nd without (plays fine), 3rd with umlaut (fail)
6) Posted logs

There is one error in the mvp.log.2 file at the end, which was from file #3. The first fail I couldn't find.

I CANNOT confirm that I see the same problem, since in my setup the request is for a short name

Code:
2014-08-14 23:40:43.542    [DEBUG][3]    StartVideoPlayback: C:\movies\Breaking Bad\Breaking Bad.Binge Bonus Cat's in the Bag...ts
2014-08-14 23:40:43.544    [DEBUG][3]    Sent playback request (C:\movies\BREAKI~1\BREAKI~1.TS)

while yours is not

Code:
2014-08-14 18:56:40.182    [DEBUG][3]    StartVideoPlayback: D:\Users\Guido\Videos\Record\Wers glaubt wird selig\Wers glaubt wird selig_20140813_20152150.ts
2014-08-14 18:56:40.197    [DEBUG][3]    Sent playback request (D:\Users\Guido\Videos\Record\Wers glaubt wird selig\Wers glaubt wird selig_20140813_20152150.ts)

Is it possible that short filename support is turned off on your drive D: I didn't think in NextPVR sub could send the LFN anymore.

Martin,

thanks. Indeed, 8dot3names were turned off on D: - for some unknown reason. I would have never thought of that, because I wasn't even aware of this option.
So I turned it on and created 8.3 FN by copying the folder structure and deleting the "-copy" name extensions. All files still play fine from recordings on the server AND on the NMT as well.

Great - and I learned something about windows as well.

Thanks!

Great I'm glad you got it sorted out. It also shows how a really bad design decision by IBMin PCDOS forty year ago can still come back to haunt us.
