Tried all USB ports and even on another machine, hvr-900 can perform faster if connected to USB 2.0 ...
Could this indicate that the Hvr-900 is faulty? As previous post was all working 2 days ago, but stopped after installing wintv 7.2 .. Npvr detects is as present but is unable to start the device!!

Yes, that "your device can perform faster" message indicates the device is faulty. I've seen it many times.

Update your chipset drivers on your motherboard

Also goto your "USB Root Hub" entries in device manager, right click, Properties, Advanced and see what it says under hub information. It should say "High Speed" for USB 2.0 operation. If it says "Full Speed" then it is either a USB 1.1 hub or is acting like one.

Are you are plugging it directly in (ie no cable)

Thanks for the feedback Smile Generic USB hub states high speed and USB root hubs state high speed!! However I'm getting 40mb/s transfer to external hard drive, so must be USB 2.0. The odd thing is in xbmc running back end npvr I get a live EPG which would indicate a signal. Channel info was transferred from another USB tv card to the shall we say sketch hvr-900, but can't select any channels, but is showing signal strength!!!!!

the hub isn't the problem. for whatever reason, a common failure mode of USB devices is that they fail to properly negotiate a High Speed USB 2.0 connection; Windows sees that the device is supposed to be capable of it, and sees it didn't connect that way so it gives you the stupid "Your Device can Perform Faster" message. On any remotely modern computer (say less than 10 years old) you should take this message to mean "Your Device has failed. Go buy another one.". Now it can sometimes be a one-off failure where you re-plug it and it's fine, but if you get this message repeatedly then just give up. There's nothing you can do to fix it.

I have seen a small number of cases where the device actually did still work at the lower speed mode, but usually it doesn't work at all (that is to say, failing to go to High Speed mode is just one effect of the larger problem - it's broken). In any case, USB 1.1 Full Speed mode would be too slow for a TV Tuner, so even if it did work it wouldn't be usable.
