Does anyone have any advice on how to add a second capture source?

I have a PVR-150 with an 'extra' A/V bracket; I use this second composite input for a VCR that works fine in WinTV2000 when switching sources, but I've tried adding it in the config as a second source and I can't figure it out -

I even tried adding a dummy channel to it called VCR and selecting it in the mini-guide, but no go.

How do I select a second capture source from within GBPVR, specifically over an MVP?

Thanks in advance!

You dont really get to pick which capture source is used. GB-PVR will automatically pick an available capture source that supplies the requested channel. If a channel is only on one capture source, its easy to predict. If the same channel is on two capture sources, then the system pick the first available one.

Thanks for the quick reply, sub.

I guessed this was what happened, so I added a channel on the second source - VCR=Channel 99 (I have no channel 99 in my EPG) - and it shows up as a channel in the guide with no data associated.

However, when I try and select it either by the guide, miniguide, or numerical entry via the remote, it just sends '99' to the cable box via the IR blaster and (obviously) nothing happens.

Oh well, guess there's no way round this, but thanks again. Incidentally, on a another note, I've had my wife's parents over from the UK on vacation this week and they have been COMPLETELY impressed with being able to see all the home movies, pics, etc., of the grandson on tv at a touch of a button. Thanks again for a great piece of software and the continued support and development.

It should do this. You must have something set incorrectly.

If you only have channel "VCR" on the one capture source, and it has its IR Blaster plugin set to 'none', then it should be sending anything to the cable box.

FIXED -

To share with anyone else that may have problems trying to do the same thing, I had time to fiddle with this the weekend and got it working. What I had to do (and forgot to do the first time around), is add the VCR as channel 99 in the Hauppauge Suite Manager and tell it that '99' is the second source.

Now, channel 99 selects the VCR in winTV2000, GBPVR on the PC, and on the MVP, and I can do this with the remote which was what I wanted. Thanks for the help, sub.

Okay, spoke too soon -

When I added the second source, I had to add the zap2it info for the EPG - this was the same as the 1st capture source.

What I omitted to do was to 'untick' all the channels in the EPG excluding 'VCR 99' so when I came home tonight I got a black screen as it was looking for channels on the second source.

I unchecked all the other channels on the second source, and now it works fine - hopefully the EPG won't fill them all up again tonight...?

Would it be possible to have a 'none' option in the EPG list for when more than one capture source is set?

I'll add a 'none' option. You can effectively do a none, by selecting XMLTV plugin and just putting a space in the filename.

I have two PVR 150MCE's in the system. It APPEARS that if one selects two sequential programs on the same channel and then try to watch a third there is a point in time where GB will not have capture resources for recording and/or viewing. I have seen twice so far but haven't been able to pin down the exact circumstances and timing.

From a logical standpoint this kind of makes sense since there is a small time pad on the front and back of the recording. I'm guessing here but it APPEARS that because GB allocates resources automatically it allocates both capture devices because it has two recordings that "overlap" but isn't sensitive to the fact that the recordings are on the same channel and thus could be serviced from a single device?
