I have been struggling to get a PVR setup and really dig the gbpvr. kudo's to sub.

However after getting everything setup my system will reboot out of nowhere. I can stream live video and I have started a recording but the system will reboot brfore finishing so I have not been able to see if I have success with that. I figured possible driver issues with my hauppauge 500pvr mce and updated drivers for it and for the windows 2k os and anything else I could get my hands on. Still reboots. I thought it might have to do with recording until it rebooted when I didnt even have gbpvr window running. I then stopped the service and the system seems to be stable again. Anythoughts on this? Here is what Im running.

AMD 1ghz cpu
gigabyte MB w/via chipset
60 gig maxtor
160 seagate
650 meg ram
hauppauge 500pvr mce
nvidia 5200 video

thanks,
Rob

If it reboots, you're having driver problems.

Try different versions of the drivers.

If your PVR500 is sharing an IRQ with another device, try moving it to a different slot.

Worse case, it may be some incompatibility with your motherboard.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I tried changing drivers for the 500pvr no luck and I moved slots and also no luck. After further trial and error it is definetly rebooting when it is recording. Doesn't seem to matter if its recording on one tuner or both tuners it still reboots.

Also I looked and there are a few things running on the same interrupt request. Not sure if that can even be changed. My video, network card and 500pvr are all the same number.

Anyone have any other ideas?

The first thing I would try is a rebuild. You can share IRQ's. My PVR150 shares IRQ with other devices and works fine. Does your Mobo support bus mastering? If so then sharing IRQ is not a problem. When you change drivers, you are doing a "hcwclear" arnt you ?

IRQ conflicts can be a real pain (instant reboots),i just rebuilt my work PC,and the darn thing kept rebooting after random periods of time, turned out my raid card and scsi card sharing the same IRQ was the problem, moved them around, and problem disappeared. Smile

Try testing system stability to start with ,go get something like sp2004 http://sp2004.fre3.com/,also try removing each card ,and testing again, dodgy ram also causes reboots http://www.memtest86.com

You could also turn off P&P in the system bios, and assign the IRQ`s yourself, check your board manual which will show which PCI slots share/used IRQ`s

ok I think I have it fixed. I changed the ACPI under Computers in Hardware devices to Standard PC. It was kind of drastic but it was the only thing I could do to get the IRQ to change. Once I reinstalled everything in the computer such as pci buses and usb ports........I had it running all evening and set a recording and it didnt reboot at all!!

Ok, now that said. In an earlier post I mentioned I havent been able to succefully get through a recording with out a reboot. Well now I have but in playback I have no picture. I look through the posts before I officially freak out.

Thanks for all the help
