As usual you are right. As I had installed it on a vanilla build with only XP SP2 and GBPVR I never had a multiplexer. I ran the Mux Checker and it told me what you already knew. So searching through the threads here I installed Power VCR to get the Cyberlink filter and everything is recording fine. The PC also wakes itself from hibernation, records and then goes back to sleep which is exactly what I was hoping for.

Just one thing though (isn't there always?)

I was slightly surprised with the size of the files produced when recording. When using the satanic software that comes with the V-Stream card, it averages out at about 2Gb per hour, but now it is over 3Gb per hour. Is there a way of varying the quality so I can reduce the file sizes?

Thanks,

Tommy

Not sure what other countries are like but in the UK it depends on the channel which have higher bandwidth so for example a 1 hour recording on bbc1 might be 2GB where as on ftn it might be 1GB also it depends on whether there is alot of scene movement which tends to increase file sizes. If you don't need mpeg2 files I suggest you use mencode to re-encode to divx or something similar then a typical 1 hour file can be between 300-600MB. You can get this to run automatically with editing the postprocessing.bat. see http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Tips/TranscodeToXVID

After a bit of googleing I've found out that There are 3 versions of the Kworld V-Stream Xpert DVB-T PCI card.
one with a Samsung tuner similar to the AVerMedia 771,
another with a Thomson tuner (similar to the Nova-T 90002)
and another with Thomson tuner DTT 7579

Just to round all this off, the reason the recordings were so large was that I followed one of the old threads on this site which described how if you didn't have a mux installed then you should install the trial version of PowerVCR3 which would install a mux you could use even after the trial had run out.

Running the mux checkers gives this result:

Found: CyberLink MPEG Muxer
FILE: C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerVCRII\MpgMux.ax
VERSION: 3.0.10.21

But as already stated I was surprised how large the files were. As I have a dual boot machine with my old V-Stream software installed on the other partition, I ran mux checker on this other partition and got this:

GB-PVR has detected the following multiplex filters on your machine:
Found: CyberLink MPEG Muxer
FILE: D:\Program Files\V-Stream Multimedia\DVB Plus\DTVR\MpgMux.ax
VERSION: 5.0.0813

...so I re-installed the V-Stream software onto the GBPVR C: partition, but obviously never ran it as I didn't want to ruin GBPVR :-)

But this installed v5 of the mux instead of v3 and this averages about 1GB per hour instead of 3 GB per hour with no noticable drop in quality! Brilliant.

Also to crunch it down further I use Pocket DivX encoder from the Betaplayer family of software. This is free to download and I was initally using it to compress files to watch them on my iPaq, but if you select PC instead of PDA, set the quality to about 50 for the picture and maximum for the sound then again it will squash the mpeg2 down to about a one third sized avi, which can then be archived onto DVD if required.

Any one reading this and having problems - please perservere - it is worth it!

Hi - I have been searching for a fix for my card as above and landed here.

The card was working to some degree (I remember I had quite a time getting it to work in the first place) until I fitted a new hard drive and reinstalled XP with service pack 2 and all the automatic downloads. For 12 months I didnt bother to re-install the card until I recently fitted a new TV antenna which receives digital signals.

So now when I have downloaded the new software and drivers I cannot get it to load the drivers. I get the message The KWorld DVB-T 100 BDA Driver Installation Failed.

I tried the old drivers from the original disk and again it failed.

If I look on Device Manager I have two yellow disks and a (!) on the following:
*Multimedia Controller
*Multimedia Video Controller

The Properties - General says = The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

Then I go into the never ending loop trying to install.

Is there any way to put the driver in place other than the software, maybe regedit can be tweeked to add the driver?

I have some indepth knowledge inside computers but obviously not enough as the threads above left me a little confused talking about "mux checkers".

I would appreciate any help you can give as it is obviously a software problem as it did work before the new installation of XP.
