I just reread this, and saw the part with "just seconds in length". I had lots and lots of trouble with this on my pvr-350, but *only* when I used hardware decoding. I had other issues with hardware decoding, too, so eventually I gave up and started using software decoding. That's when all the timing issues disappeared also. So, it seemed it was a problem with the decoding. It might be a long shot, but perhaps you should switch to another decoder and see if the problem persists or goes away?

Stefan,

Your advice is spot-on. I just got on this morning to post about how changing the decoder fixed it and there your message was.

I thought this problem came about from the new release but it's really because I changed my decoder about 3 weeks ago and just hadn't watched an in-progress recording since.

The Nero Decoder is what caused my trouble. The decoder looks and works great otherwise, but apparently it causes trouble when watching a recording in-progress. Why? We'll leave sub to explain that. I clearly don't know enough about how the timeline works to deduce it, but switching back to the Cyberlink decoder solved my problem. It doesn't look quite as good but at least it works.

Thanks,
Tim

Could this be my problem too (with the MVP) as I have the Nero Digital Software installed (never changed any decoder setting)??

The MVP doesn't use a software decoder. It has a hardware decoder built in. That is why it handles standard mpeg2 files the best.
3x MVPs (not used anymore)
XBMC
Hauppauge 150 via SVideo
Comcast Digital Cable
Motorola HD Cable box channel changed via Firewire
Vista Home Premium with RDP hack
AMD Athalon 64 5000+
340gig sata, plus 80SATA+3x160IDE Drives in XP machine for storage.

Conclusion: when watching an in progress recording on the PC, everything works perfect (even with the nero decoder).
The problem just occurs when watching via MVP Sad

sml,

The problem I was having wasn't with the MVP, it was directly from the PC. Switching from the Nero decoder to the Cyberlink one solved the problem for me. But since the Nero Decoder works for you, what version are you using? I'm not sure what mine is (and can't check until I get home) but I'd love to compare and find out if an upgrade or downgrade will allow me to use it.

I definitely prefer the Nero decoder, but not at the expense of being unable to watch a program that's currently recording.

Thanks,
Tim
