Hi,

I will be setting up a PVR within the next few days (just waiting for my PVR-350) and I was just wondering if there is a way to populate the EPG without a network connection. [Image: biggrin.gif]

I have a high speed internet connection and I have networked several PCs in my home. However, the TV is in the basement and the main computers with internet connection are in the 2nd floor. I know that wired is more reliable and more consistent than wireless so I want to put an ethernet wire all the way to the basement... but I'm having second thoughts... I'm also investigating the 802.11g angle...

Eventually, I will network this PVR PC one way or the other. BUT while it is not yet networked, is there a way for me to populate the EPG maybe from a file that is generated from any of my networked PCs? I was thinking that maybe, I can generate the EPG from a networked PC, copy the file to a removable media (CD, USB drive, etc), then copy it again to the PVR PC?

TIA.

Its not possible to use zap2it or bleb EPG plugins this way.

You can use the XMLTV option without access to a network. It would involve generating XMLTV files then copying them over to the machine periodically, and manually running the "Update EPG".

Thanks, Sub.

I have not used XMLTV and I'm sure I can go and RTFM [Image: smile.gif] but just so I can get started quickly, can you please point me to the right direction? What do I need to do to "generate XMLTV files"? What would be the name of the file that I have to copy over?

Thanks again.

Go read over at http://xmltv.org which has the software and information about it. You can set it up to generate to any file name you want. In GB-PVR Config choose to use the XMLTV EPG Source, for the filename field click browse and select whatever you XMLTV file is.

If you live in Sweden, Norway, Denmark or UK, I can higly reccomend o2grabber (http://www.o2design.se/o2grabber/) which can get up to two weeks of schedules ahead. That way you don't need to do the manual update TO often.
(You still use the XMLTV plugin and just point to the file generated by o2grabber.)

I have used it for a while and I'm happy with it.
