I thought I would post the details of a problem I just worked through, just in case someone else runs into it.
This all happened I was first trying to set up the EPG for my capture source; I first tried to set up xmltv listings, since I had already signed up for a zap2it labs account and set up xmltv's tv_grab_na_dd to get listings for use with my other apps. When I tried to update the EPG, it would get through the "Reading XMLTV Listings" step, but during "Saving new listings and channel information", it would pop up something along the lines of "ChannelFactory::StoreChannels(): unknown error".
When I closed config and re-opened it to try again, my original recording source had disappeared.
A quick trip to Google, and I found the only hit in the old forum about ChannelFactory::StoreChannels(), which was talking about a different error, but one that looked like an SQL error message. On a hunch, I found the mdb and opened it in Access. Although a big mess of tables showed up in the listing, when I actually tried to open any of them, I got a message box saying just "Unknown", and an Access crash. Luckily, I happened to tell the error reporting to do it's thing, because the online crash analysis actually came up with something! That's only the second time it's ever been useful for me, in however many years of using XP, but both times it has saved me a lot of footwork.
It had picked up a knowledge base article (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=905530) that described a different problem, but as it turns out one with the same root cause (and a crash at the same address -- the reason that OCA picked it up).
So, I followed the instructions and did a quick
regsvr32 msjtes40.dll
in my Windows\System32 directory, to reregister the "Jet Expression Services" dll. After a quick check with Access again, I fired up Config, set up my EPG again, and my listings loaded flawlessly.
