The hardware can only play MPEG1 or MPEG2 files, but GB-PVR (or the Hauppauge software) will try to convert other types of video like divx etc to MPEG2 files on the fly to allow you to view these types of files also. For this to work you need to have a fast machine (P4 2.4Ghz or faster).

Something I do is start the divx movie, then immediately pause it. Go get snacks/beverage, by the time I get back a couple of minutes have been converted and I have a nice buffer built up.

Hi,

I've installed GBPVR with the defaults and tried Divx movies - they work except that every 20 or so secs it jumps a frame or two.

Now I have a fast machine ( AMD 2600 1 Gig Mem etc ) so I was wondering if there are any tips for an optimised setup in this case ?

Thanks

I was having the same problem - Somone in the forums suggested setting the "MVP transcode pre-play delay" (on the MVP tab in config) to greater than 7000 (I set mine to 10000). This did the trick. I think it basically delays the initial startup of the MVP playback long enough to build up a buffer. Works great with a P4 1.6 machine.
