Hi All,
I am a novice of GBPVR but I am quite impressed by this SW and I would like to continue to use it.
However I noticed that some component of GBPVR access the Internet, even when you don't download anything from the net (e.g. when the progran has been launched...).
I guess that the GBPVR recordingservices and the main module are the guilty ones and this happens every time I start the program.
Can someone explain me why? I noticed a continous taffic from the sw, even when I was not downloading anything (content, music, film, etc.) from Internet.
Moreover, I discovered that at the beginning the SW accesses Google web sites (66.249.93.104 and 66.102.11.99) or famous akamaitechnologies server farms (195.102.11.99).
Thanks in advance to everyone that will spend part of his time to explain to me this GBPVR secret.
Ciao,

Stefano

Have you installed any plugins? A few of them try to download images/info for show and movies.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
However this happens since the first installation and evry time I use config. The pc is portected by spycatcher, avast antivirus and zonealarm and I am quite sure it is safe.
The acces to internet is normal when allowed, but why does gbpvr contact those web sites every time the registrationservices are stopped and restarted, like when using config?
All plugins I have installed do not need in theory to access the Net.
Is there any way to put the question to the developers of GBPVR?
Thanks in advance.
Ciao,

Giuseppe

What pluig-ins are you using? Sub's the developer, I'm sure he will comment when he gets a chance. But, in the event that he has no idea it would help to have your plugin's listed so the plugin developers might be able to provide some more info.

Good luck.
GBPVR Server:
AMD Sempron 3300+, 1gb DDR, 100, 200 & 500gb HDDs, DVD -/+RW PVR150 RETAIL, PVR150MCE.
GBPVR 1.0.16, SKIN'S = Default Blue, PLUGIN'S = None

The weather plug-in access the Internet at start-up to download forecasts and images. The video archive plug-in uses google to search for pictures for new recordings and VDS, but it does not do this at startup but instead when the new recordings are created.

If its not a plugin as mentioned above, then it sounds like you've got some virus or spyware. The only external internet addresses GB-PVR will access are zap2it.com if you you're using the zap2it epg, or a web radio station address if you start listening to net radio.

And if your xmltv-file provides some information where to download the channel-icons this would also be done.

for Germany this would be http://www.tvtoday.de - other countries could be somehow similar

Yes, true - that is another situation that will cause internet access. It will download channel icons from the internet if you're using XMLTV and icon URLs are included.

I'd recommend running a sniffer and capture the packets so you can see what data is transferred, if any, and if it is accessing a web site, you'd be able to catch the URL being accessed.

Ethereal is a good sniffer that is under GPL for Windows, get it over at sourceforge.net

I just did a capture and started and stoped GBPVR several times and transmitted no traffic.
