Hi all,

I've searched but cannot find my specific question.

Can I load GB-PVR onto a machine without a PVR, pull up the TVGuide, click on "watch now" and have GB-PVR blast the appropriate channel out my USB-UIRT and have it change the channel on my satellite receiver?

I understand I could try this myself, but I think this would require me to pull my WinTV from another PC, install it in this PC, load the drivers, load the Hauppauge IR blaster, then put the card back into the original machine (ir blaster won't load on my machine unless it sees the wintv drivers and the wintv drivers won't install without the wintv card.) Too much to "see if it works".

Thanks.

No, probably not.

You can install GB-PVR and use most of the screens with out a capture card, but doing a 'watch now' would require a card.

sub,

Unfortunately, thanks for your response.

How about if I put one of those cheap Iomagic cards into the PC (not a hardware PVR, simply a raw input card), can I trick GB-PVR into blasting the channel change?

(understand, I'm not looking to view the TV on the PC, simply looking for a way to use the GB-PVR TVGuide to change the channels on the sat box)

It might work, but you'd probably also get some ugly error message popup each time you it.

I understand, but it wasnt really built for this task.

You might be able to right up something with the 'external recorder plugin', but I suspect if its not producing real video data that you'll get an ugly error message each time.

If anyone is interested in this same capability, I have found the solution. It involves a program called aivms. I was talked through it by the author on remotecentral.com, located here: http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mbo...d.cgi?3326

Works great.
