Besides just checking the cable, look at the back of the MVP. There should be a lit LED near the cable connector.
If it's not lit, then there's a problem.
Look at the Router or switch that the MVP is connected to. It should have some LED indicators. They should blink when the MVP accesses the network. If they don't then there is a problem.
Both of these problems would indicate a hardware failure of some sort. If these are indicating normally, then a software problem is more likely.
What is the revision number of your MVP?
