I know GBPVR doesn't officially support Windows Home Server (WHS), but i had a problem with it tonight.

I have recently upgraded to a new machine. It's a dual core Athlon64, with 2 gigs of DDR2 ram, a 320 gig system drive and (currently) a 500 gig SATA data drive.

The problem i had was when watching a programme that was still recording. I have watched programmes that were no longer recording with no problems at all. I have attached the logs (all of them). There seems to be an error in pretty much every one of them!

I have pointed told GBPVR to record to D:\shares\recordings, which is part of the WHS storage "pool", so i don't know if it's a problems with reading and writing to the same file. Or whether it's the fact that i now have a dual core processor.

The MVP just froze up while we were watching it, we left it for about 30 seconds, then switched off the MVP. On powering it up again it connected again, but was unresponsive, so we powered it off again. So we left it for about 10 minutes, then tried again, but this time it didn't even connect. When i went to the PC i could click on anything, I could move the focus to windows, but not click on any of the buttons. So i reset it.

One other thing i just remembered is that the MVP in question wasn't power-cycled when i re-built the PC. And as i went to 99.5 to 99.12 it could be the dongle.bin, i was using an old dongle.bin before as i had problems with the newer ones when used on my small LCD tv.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You logging level is set to 'error', so the logs dont contain much in the way of useful info. Reproduce the problem with the level set to 'debug' then I'll take another look.

It happened again. But this time the logging level was set to debug.

It made a remote desktop session i had unresponsive and also trying to log on locally to the machine didn't work properly either.

Hope you can shed some light on the problem.

Thanks.

Hope you had a good break sub, i have one lined up in about 4 weeks - can't come soon enough!

Have you had a chance to have a look at my logs, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Nothing obvious in the logs.

Does it work when you set the recordings directory to a local volume (for example, c:\recordings)?

Does it ever work, or does it fail everytime?

I'm probably thinking along the same lines as you. I suspect it's something to do with the way WHS stores files.

What i was thinking i could do to get around it is record to a normal hard drive (outside of the storage pool), then set up a post-recording hook to copy the recording to the share, which would duplicate the file, effectively backing it up.

Then i could run some kind of directory sync software so that when i delete a recording from the live recordings folder, the backup also gets deleted.

It seems to be whenever we try to either view live tv or view and in-progress recording it just locks up the entire machine. Someone else has reported it on the WHS forums, so it's not just me.

Thanks for looking
