Hi, I have been using GBPVR flawlessly for quite a while now, but have just made some changes to my network setup and am now running into problems.

The problems are specific to me, rather than to gbpvr but know that you are all wise here so may be able to help me!

The original set up that worked fine was all running from a single modem/router with a 4 port switch, but I now need more than 4 ports and also decided to add some wireless to my life. So I bought a belkin wireless router with a 4 port switch, and plugged this into the original modem router.

But with the way I have it set up with the mvp server computer plugged into the modem router and the mvp plugged into the new router it wont connect.

Now should I be looking at some fixed ip routing/forwarding or is the only way for it to work, to have the mvp server and the mvp on the same router?

I hope that all makes sense!

thanks in advance.

Have you plugged you second router to the first via the WAN port?? If so you've not got two networks and passing between then is difficult.

Try turning off the dhcp server on the second router and use one of it's LAN ports to connect to a LAN port of the first router. This is how I run two wireless routers at home. Effectively the second one becomes a switch.

I guess you have to configure one of the routers to behave as a switch, you have to turn off the dhcp-server for that, you shouldn't have 2 dhcp-servers running. I'm sure more/better advice will follow.Smile

HAHA! Excellent!

Turned off DHCP unplugged it from the WAN socket into an normal port, couple of power cycles and bam up and running!

Thanks alot guys!

Cant seem to access the new belkin router admin page from the computer plugged into the old router unless I connnect to it wirelessly, which is a pain but I can live with that.

Thanks again.

have you got the belkin with it's internal network being the same subnet as the old router?

I.e My main router is 192.168.1.1, my second router is 192.168.1.20 the second router internal network subnet is 192.168.1.0

Also the second router has a fixed ip address (192.168.1.20) and on the second router you can techinically allow access from the "internet" side since it's not actually exposed to the proper internet, but the other router....

Hmmm I cant seem to access the new router at all now, even from the computer plugged straight into it. Even though everything else is working perfectly.

The modem router is at 10.0.0.138 as it always has been and the belkin was at 192.168.2.1 but that isnt working now?

The connected computers and the mvp have addresses from 10.0.0.1 to 10.0.0.5

Im stumped.

thanks

so you changed the belkin from 192.168.2 to 10.0.0??

You can normally perform the hardware reset and connect to the router normally (as in take it out of the network) to get it's settings back.

Or if you didn't change the internal network of the belkin, set a machine to 192.168.2.2 and connect a cable to it....

I didnt knowingly change the address of the belkin, all I did was unplug it from the wan port and plugged it into a normal port and turned off the belkin dhcp.

Everything is running fine at the moment as it is, so Im going to leave it until I need to get into the belkin for whatever reason in the future.

Thanks again for the help.
