Hi all,

I'm very new to gbpvr -- was looking for an alternative since mediaportal didn't want to work on my new system. Gbpvr is looking very promising, but unfortunately I can't get it to work either. My current setup is as follows:

Laptop as HTPC (dell latitude d820; enough oomph to get things going :-)

FireDTV receiver
Single cable running to a diseqc switch
Two dishes, the 1st pointing at 19.2 astra for (encoded) canaldigitaal stuff from the Netherlands; the other pointing at 28.2 astra for fta stuff from the bbc and itv.
Latest drivers from digital everywhere

What I do:
Start Config.exe,
go to Capture sources,
Capture source = FireDTV; recording source = BDA rec plugin (which Config appears to find, since hitting "Only show devices detected" brings up the FireDTV),
Country = All countries (unchangable)
Region / transmitter = Astra 1E etc (where can I set the other sat dish?)
LNB setup = LOF1 = 9750, Switch = 11700, LOF2 = 10600, which are the settings that used to work in Mediaportal.
Powered = unchecked;
Diseqc = A (haven't the foggiest what to set this to)

I hit OK, then hit Update EPG (source being DVB EPG broadcast). I then click on Map digital channels to EPG channels, and then I get the error message:

"gb-pvr was unable to start the bda device you have configured. Check the device is configured properly, and not already in use"

I then get an Unhandled exception stating that "Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

Any way around this, folks?

And, by the way, is there an IRC channel for gb-pvr?

No-one?

Yesterday I've wiped the machine clean, and reinstalled Windows XP SP2 from scratch (+Autopatcher May 2007), thus hoping to avoid the crud that was previously on it, but I'm wondering if that helps.

Are you able to try it without the diseqc switch? I suspect this may not be working correctly for the FireDTV.

Ah, well, if that's the case the experiment stops right here. :o That firedtv thingie cost me quite a bit, and it's going to stay. I had the definite impression that this would work, though.

Just in case I feel like it: assuming I get it to work on the old laptop (the new one is now running Media Center 2005 -- :eek: but at least it works) how would I go about telling gbpvr that one sat dish is pointing to 19.2 astra, and the other to 28.2 astra? I couldn't find that anywhere?

I meant that GB-PVR might not support the diseqc correctly via the FireDTV device. Each device manufacture implements diseqc control a different way. I've never tested GB-PVRs support for FireDTV diseqc.

You create two capture sources for the same device, each with the satellite and diseqc set appropriately.

Ah, that was too obvious, probably Big Grin I'll try that on the old laptop. "Kids, move over! Daddy's gonna have to spend some quality time with the tv set." Cool

-edit-
Oh, and this is what I found in the changelog for 99.12:

Quote:- improved support for diseqc switches with hauppauge/twinhan/firedtv devices
