Searched around a bit, couldn't find anything in the support forum. Find it hard to believe I'm the only one encountering this!

I'm using a Hauppauge MCE remote with HIP, and HIPSend to drive my satellite receiver. Changing channels from within PVRX2 works fine so the links to HIPSend are still OK. But I can't drive PVRX2 with my remote so input is broken.

I configured everything a long time ago according to these instructions on the Wiki.

I added PVRX2.exe to my Hip configuration (in the Program 2 slot). I copied all my existing GBPVR.exe remote command values from the Program 1 slot to the Program 2 slot. I also tried setting Hip's Application Properties for PVRX2 to tie into the appropriate Window Class by running PVRX2.exe and selecting each available class via Hip's "Show Classes" function. GBPVR.exe still accepts R/C while PVRX2.exe does not.

Instead of trying to debug my attempts, what have other people done to get their remotes working with the new UI?

TIA!

While you wait for some HIP expert to rely, you can always disable HIP and just use GB-PVRs built in MCE remote support. It works fine for me, and tons of other people, but admittedly wont give you whatever extra custom stuff caused you to switch to HIP in the first place.

I installed a 150MCE at the same time that I upgraded to PVR2.exe. I couldn't get the HIP/alternate driver to install.

I saw the [DEBUG] section in the Irremote.ini file that allowed me to open up notepad and get text output of codes with the IR32 software. I did this and just remapped the codes it was giving me in notepad to the keys I wanted in PVR2.exe.

This is the remote I have and attached is the Irremote.ini file that I use with it. The .ini file is not in the cleanest condition but it allows me to use most of the remote buttons (except the green windows key, back and "i"/more). I don't use GB-PVR.exe so that section is removed in my file as well.

Thanks, sub and jvcleave for the help.

I have the same remote as jvcleave, but pieced it together from individual parts kits. I went down the Hip path because there didn't appear to be any other alternative to get my remote working.

So, assuming that I would like to take advantage of GB-PVRs native remote support, what (Hauppauge?) software and drivers do I need in addition to whatever comes with the GB-PVR installer?

Surprisingly enough, the Wiki seems to gloss over this aspect of remote controls, while the Hip stuff is a lot more exhaustive.

Thanks again!

I just use IR32.exe that came on the CD - you can get it here though

ftp://ftp.shspvr.com/download/ir32

my ini file says "; requires ir32.exe, irremote.dll 2.45.22230 or later"

so you want to stay above those versions

I'll give IR32 a try; I run a WinTV-PVR-USB2 with my laptop as a portable recorder, and IR32 seems to work OK with that box.

Thanks for the tip; I've been really happy with HIP but never mastered it enough to overcome this current limitation.

Its been a long time since I first plugged my Hauppauge MCE remote into my machine, so I cant remember if it prompted me to install any drivers. I'm fairly sure it didnt ask for anything. XP Pro has built in drivers for MCE remotes.

Other than that, you just set the remote type to 'MCE Remote' in the config app and you should be good to go.

Hmmm, that would be a neat trick. I wonder if I'll have to disable the alternate driver I added along with HIP?

Looks like I will have to spend another evening experimenting with this. I never really exploited any of HIPs more advanced capabilities, so as long as I can use my remote to drive both GBPVR and PVRX2 (without breaking HIPSend channel changes) I'll be happy.

Anyway, for those paying attention, I noticed that Hauppauge keeps the IR32 package available for download.

Thanks for the tips, folks. I got my Hauppauge MCE remote working with PVRX2 last night, and wanted to update this thread.

I had to get rid of the alternate I/R driver I installed along with HIP (see previous Wiki links for background) in order to get native GB-PVR MCE remote support working. I'm sorry I didn't try this before; the native support actually enables more keys than I ever got working with my HIP installation. Very nice! Also very easy; I simply had to get to Device Manager, uninstall the alternate driver (verifying that I had a copy saved off just in case), and reinstall the original eHome driver automatically.

Unfortunately, I can't get rid of HIP just yet. (I'm using HIPSend to drive the I/R blaster for channel changes.) This means that when I run the GBPVR GUI, both HIP and native support process each key twice. But PVRX2 works correctly since I can't figure out how to sync HIP with it.

I will spawn an additional thread to ask about native I/R blaster support.
