Okay, I've ALMOST got playback of Live TV and Mpeg recordings perfect on a PVR machine I set up for my parents, but I'd apprecaiate some help in getting it VERY perfect! Smile

Basically, I'm yet to find a video decoder that gives me great results every time. (Using latest GBPVR on nVidia 6600GT video card). At the moment I have Cyberlink, DScaler, MPV decoders installed. Cyberlink and DScaler give me great smooth playback, but occasionally when changing channel, or skipping forwards/backwards through recordings, the video begins to stutter badly and ghost. Skipping channels forwards and backwards seems to fix the problem for that particular channel, as does pausing and playing a few times on recordings, but only until the channel is change / the recording is skipped the next time.

MPV, on the other hand, doesn't do this stuttering, BUT, video playback is noticably less smooth when using this, with lateral jerking when the camera is panned, or on news tickers. Dscaler and Cyberlink look much better.

So I feel I'm very close to getting this setup right. Any tips, requests for info, or recommendations for other decoders to try, very much welcomed Smile

It might be quartz.dll problem doing this. Do a forums search for details of this.

The MPV decoder does use hardware acceleration features of your video card, which I think is why this decoder doesnt have the same problem.

FK I had similar experiences with different decoders, and in the end found it was the renderer that made the biggest difference.
Using VMR7, 9, and 9custom it did not matter what decoder was used, there was always some juddering / stuttering.
Only Overlay and VMR9-FSE give me totally smooth video (news tickers & panning). Once I settled on 9 FSE, I found all the decoders give smooth video - so the choice is then down to preference / deinterlacing capabilities / CPU overhead etc.
At present I am switching between Nvidia Purevideo and the Intervideo non-css decoders, but both are totally smooth...
BTW I did notice the Quartz.DLL problem on rare occasions, but switching it to the old version caused other issues so I got a newer version from this hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=919071
Also I assume you are using the correct video card refresh rate for your TV / video, as incorrect will cause stuttering on some content..
