So-- I'm setting up a wired MVP with a ethernet to wirelesss 'g' adapter. With the same adapter, I can hook to my laptop and stream from the EWA at LAN rates, full quality from the same location in the house. And to test, I tried a wired link with the same results.

Using either version of the 2 Hauppauge SWs available from their site, I get huge lags, every 1.5 second or so. Using gbpvr and the dongle bundled with the last release, or the 12/04 or the 12/23 dongle.bin from mvpmc releases, I get the same lags, although the mvpmc dongles might be a little less "lossy".

I was going to try and do some ftp transfers in and out of the mvpmc to check transfer rates but I can't even get scp going once I telnet in. Should be fine, ping to the HTPC is 1.3ms. BTW why can't I get in on telnet once the connection to GBPVR is made?

What else can I check/ this seems like it should just work fine. Latest PVRX2, WinXP. I've tried 12-04 and 12-23 builds from mvcpc, and everything from Hauppauge that is available for download from the one site, or is archived as just dongle.bin from the one website. The PC is 1.8MHz, I can stream whatever I want out of it, I can even tunnel in to the HTPC from work via my 10bT unix box and have an OK (smaller res) stream going out from the EWA.

Thanks for thoughts--

mvpmc's native filesystem has a mpeg file throughput test option. Assuming you got the mvpmc share running (or you want to mount one via telnet)

scp isn't included in the release but if you know enough to test with it you can also try something like

time dd if=/etc/mvpmc/test.mpg of=/dev/null bs=8192 count=10240

You might want to play with the bs (block size variable) variable on this test.

There is also a mvpmc command line option --em-rtwin that allows you to adjust the rtwin network variable which is definitely optimized for wired networking at 8192. You can try setting it to 4096 and also to 0 to see if they help.

scp binary was there but it was missing... something it needed, and the box isn't up at them moment.

Just to check, I'm not supposed to do anything in PVRX2 besides just turning the MVP server on in config, right? No transcoding or anything for this when using mpgs?

The recordings I'm playing are "medium" quality. And for the rtwin variable-- how to get that to stick between power cycles?

And-- how to get back to mvpmv setting screen once emulation mode is going? Only power cycle? power cycle plus dongle change on config is the only way I've found to get the setting screen back consistently I think, although I didn't play that much.

I'd like to take a look at the system once it is in emulation mode but I can't telnet in at that point; what is set up for getting in at that time?

It would be fun if some binary tools were optional and able to be downloaded separately, maybe they are already.

Thanks, I'll poke around over the holiday and see what happens.

But most importantly: I get the same problem over wired (see above) so-- I don't understand it. And my other streaming does great, so I don't think it's my network.

Anything to check on the HTPC side?

Sorry, I misread your first post I took "same results" to be same as EWA. You have lots of mvpmc questions too, but I will respond to these later, the important thing is to find out what is causing this problem. The first thing you should do is duplicate the problem and upload your log files when you have a chance.

hmm... telnett'd in, I don't find a test.mp3 on the system anywhere.

I'd put something on there but netstat doesn't show any listening ports and I don't see a wy to get a daemon going with what's available; am I overlooking something?

thanks!

From telnet you are likely not mounting the share that mvpmc needs,

Let's first take a step back and have a look at the GBPVR logs when you upload them. We might be able to troubleshot the problem without going under the hood. There is a sticky somewhere on how to upload logs, I like to look at the MVP* logs and the CONFIG.EXE.LOG comes in handy too. These files are in (from memory)
"C:\Program Files\devnx\gbpvr\logs" zip them and attach to your replay.
