Hi, guys, I want to wake up WinXP PC from sleep for maintenance at night. BIOS doesn’t do it, as it probably “Thinks” PC is up already, when in sleep mode. I need some sort of free or low-cost alarm program. Please share your experience

Windows task scheduler?

Set up some batch files or whatever you want to run, and tick the box "wake the computer to perform this task" and it should work
(if GBPVR is able to wake the pc to record, then there should be no reason it would not work, as it uses the same windows components)

jonnycam is right, but you can also use GBpvr for this.

Does GBpvr wake up your pc successfully to do the EPG update? Mine does this every night.

If so, you can create a batch file in the gbpvr folder called PostUpdateEPG.bat. This file doesn't normally exist but it will be called by GBpvr after the epg updates. This batch file could contain any processing you want to do. More info.

I found on web how to use the task scheduler last night and it looks like it ran "Speed Disk" last night. Thank you for the advice!.

GBPVR works great and records everything that scheduled. but i'm running PC in manual recording modes, as listings updates is my problem. CTTV listings free version sucks (for me, or vise versa :o)). Someone suggested to take listings from Windows Media addition and import into GBPVR not sure though how to do that. another problem is if i put GBPVT on MEdia addition PC -- remote controls Media addition and not GBPVR. Any suggestions how to disable remote for MCE and enable for GBPVR only?

Install the replacement MCE driver - http://www.byremote.com.au/Hip/mce_remote_faq.htm

That should solve it I think.
However, you will need to have something installed to translate your MCE remote signals into keypresses / actions. HIP is good for that (same site as above, free)

You can download a premade config file from the wiki to import into HIP and all of the remote fuctions are pretty much mapped straight away.
http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Hardw...eyMappings
(according to this page, some of the buttons are mapped natively in GBPVR - never knew that! - http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Hardware/MCERemotes)

Oh yeah, if you go back into Task scheduler, then double click on the task, it tells you when it was last run (or attempted) and if it finished sucessfully.
