Hi,

I was wondering if anyone else had come across the situation where every time you run PVRX2 you get the "Please wait while Windows configures GB-PVR" dialogue box, followed when you go to live TV by a message that signal strength and quality is non-existent, despite both readings showing totally green bars, and good quality picture behind the dialogue box. The signal indicator disappears as soon as you change channel.

Hopefully this can be seen here:

I don't know what logs may be helpful here, but have attached a couple.

My PC is an Athlon 64 X2, 2gb RAM, an nVidia 8400 GS video card, running XP Home, SP 2 and all updates, and Direct X 9 (10 caused issues before with VMR 9 sometimes). I did a clean reinstall of XP yesterday because of problems with the nv4_disp.dll from the nVidia driver, and that problem seems to have been solved, but this is more of an annoyance rather than serious snag, but it would be good to be able to fix it.

Unfortunately I'm not particularly computer literate, so sometimes need things explained to me in words of one syllable.

Usually if windows decides it needs to rerun the MSI installer like this, it'll post a message saying why in the Windows event viewer.

Try increasing the <NoSignalPopupDelay> setting value in the config.xml file. (edit it with notepad, not wordpad)

Thanks for the quick reply Sub - I hinted that my abilities were limited. I had to delete GB-PVR completely, and reinstall it, and have now got rid of the original problems.

However....

EPG. I now have no listings showing in the guide, despite the channels being scanned and showing as mapped. I have updated EPG, to no avail. In the Config, the Channels tab is completely blank. I have tried deleting gbpvr.db3 and rebuilding the capture source (I have a Hauppauge HVR 1300, and have the Nova-T (90002) selected), but the fault persists. The channels are all available to watch live, just no planner or guide.

I have attached my logs in the hope they mean something to you.

Many thanks

Iain

Edited to add that having restarted the recording service, the Channels tab in the config application is now populated, but still no EPG programme listings.

What do you have the recording directory set to in the config app? Does this directory actually exist?

How to feel like a fool. My apologies Sub - when I did the clean install of Windows I forgot to create the C:\Temp folder - having done that of course things work now.

Sorry again for wasting your time.

The problem referred to in the original post here obviously was an annoyance rather than a real snag, but it was getting on my nerves, so I had a look in Windows Event Viewer (thanks for that tip, Sub) and it seems that unlike other progammes I have, moving the GB-PVR folder on the XP start menu away from the original location was the cause of the problem. Under MsiInstaller, it was being reported that the programme didn't exist in the original location, and that the feature "Complete" failed, which I guess would explain why the Installation window came up again.

I didn't think it would do any harm, so having placed the start menu item where I wanted it, I ran "Re-register filters" and the problem appears to have been fixed.

I just wanted to give some feedback in case anyone else came across the problem.

Thanks buddy "Re-register filters" worked for me too, I do not know why I loose my filter settings every now and then. Here is another problem, when you change a channel icon the installer wants to re-install the one you deleted when you go to that channel in live TV. I replaced TV1.jpg with TV1.gif for example, and deleted the .jpg file. I worked around the problem by renaming the TV1.gif to TV1.jpg. The underlying core will read the image with the correct image encoder...
