I did just what you described with tv_cat. And it works fine. But then I was using another source for TV listings that doesn't have program descriptions. Nothing I cannot live without , but since another TV listing provider has it.... and that provider is actually official for xmltv (tv_grab_hr).
Problem with them is that they have one file per day and per channel. That makes it unusable with tv_cat.
Additional program is just one exe file of 500 kB.

Anyway, now I have what I wanted. Only... program description doesn't always fit in area for it within TV Guide. And I don't know if I can make that area bigger or scroll through it. Nothing is available with default settings. Any idea?

No idea. I am just the guy with all the answers for getting guide data. I don't have any control over the content or how GBPVR presents it. Anyone?

I assume you are referring to the area at the bottom of the tvguide screen? If so you can alter that by editing the skin.xml file (use something like notepad to edit it) in the ../devnz/gbpvr/skin2/blue(or what ever skin you are using)/tvguide directory......but to get the whole description to display there you would have to cut the number of channels you could see per screen down a lot I would say....

Thanks Jaggy! I'll try that.
I have only four channels in my tv_guide, so it is not a problem. Problem could be some limitation on number of characters to be displayed...
Actually, this whole thing with a program description is not that important to me. Just trying to get the most of it.

I'm using zap2xml to grab my listings.
I have zap2xml.exe and the .bat file I created in the same folder.
I can double click the .bat and it will get the listings, then i have to open config, and update the epg for each of my tuners one at a time.
Is there a way to have gbpvr grab the listings by logging in to zap2it (using my current .bat or not) and then updating without going through config manually?
Here's my current .bat: <code>zap2xml -u reboot@shaw.ca -p xxxxxxxx -d 14</code>
TIA

Why do you have to update the epg manually? It can be done automatically - either directly through config (doesn't work always, at least for me), or through simple script (gbpvr -updateepg).
You can include this into your bat. I have in the same .bat grabbing and sorting listings as well as updating epg. I also restart recording service at the end. It runs regularly via Windows scheduler without my intervention.

That is exactly what I want, but don't quite know how to accomplish it.
any clues?

Reboot,

I have three tuners - each pointing to the same xmltv file. Here's how I do it.

In your gbpvr directory you should have an updateepg.bat. In that batch file you should have something like this:

cd \progra~1\devnz\zap2xml (change to directory of your batch file)
call updatelistings.bat (run your batch file)

Now when in the gui (not config gui) you should be able to say, update epg and it'll run the updateepg.bat then update your listings by updating reading the new xmltv file - at least that's how I think it works. Be warned though, this can take a few minutes.

Also, in the config guie, I tell it to auto update at 5 am.

EDIT: oh yeah you can also run the batch file directly to see if it's working. Running it through the gui hides all the command windows.
