personally if you are having no problems with your computer I would suggest that you leave the hard drive and OS the way it is and simply put the second hard drive as a slave and point pvrx2 to use the slave 500gig as the recording directory.
next I would buy a USB hard drive enclosure for like $23 bucks and have plug it in too...
I am currently using a 500 gig USB as my recording directory and have had no problems recording standard TV on the high quality settings ...
recording two shows while watching a third all on the same USB drive.
just make sure you have all your drivers for your computer if you are going to install your operating system...
a new hard drive as your master may also invoke the copy protection of your newly installed operating system and you will need to contact Microsoft to get it activated again with the new machine ID.
You need to also make sure you have all the drivers for your chipset and sound card and importantly your ethernet adaptor
