heya,

I have had my install working for a few months. For a while the image quality was very good and I was pleased. A few weeks back I noticed the image quality had dropped, with that 'interlacing' feel - a blurry background and blurry anything else that moved fast. Very much MPEG1 visually. I had not made any changes to the machine to cause this. It was now my 'production' pvr sitting under my tele, no more fiddling. Also, windows update is turned off. So no changes at all!

When it was working ok, I was using the Cyberlink decoder and all was good. However it appears that now it ignores any changes to the 'video decoder' settings. if I choose any other decoder (I have loaded a few to try and solve this) the video performance never changes at all. They all look the same, with the same blurry MPEG1 ugliness.

Along comes 1.2.13 - I have upgraded to see if there are any changes. Nope, nothing for picture quality anyway. But now I cannot get into the 'Settings' applet from the main menu. It opens and then instantly drops back to the main menu again.

just to be sure I now updated my NVIDIA drivers. No change.

Now I decided that I would uninstall all MPEG decoders by uninstalling all their host apps. Then install the Cyberlink PowerDVD 7 app by itself to get that MPG decoder working. Now I get no video in GB-PVR at all (black screen), but I do get audio. No changes to the config can give me video back. I renamed the config.xml file to reset the config, and re-setup from scratch. Still no video, just a black screen.

Also, If I run the app "MUX Checker" I get:
NO MULTIPLEXER FILTERS WHERE FOUND ON YOUR MACHINE.

Why is my installation ignoring all my settings for 'Video Decoder'? I am considering a reinstall but I dont want to loose my recorded tv programs from the 'recordings' applet in GB-PVR. Any tricks on backing that up and restoring later?

All suggestions appreciated.
Cheers.

Tell it to use the Cyberlink video decoder, then try playing a file, then zip and attach the pvrx2.exe-native.log and I'll take a look.

You can ignore that - its nothing to do with video decoders.

I doubt reinstalling GB-PVR would help. It sounds like a problem with the video decoders on your machine rather than a GB-PVR problem.

also, If I do a repair on the installation of GBPVR it fails with a generic error and does a roll-back. Where is the installation log kept?

Windows puts any MSI installer error messages in the Windows Event Viewer.

WOW! Thanks for the speedy reply. 12 minutes must be a record!

1) I looked in the event log, nothing more than
"Product: GB-PVR -- Configuration failed" - Event 11729
I'll check to see if this event exists somewhere.

2) I have attached the logs as requested. Still black screen.

I'll await your reply.
Cheers

That's the PVRx2.log file. You should also have one called pvrx2.exe-native.log

And sub's record is more like 12 seconds. Wink

Thats the right log. I had to copy/paste from a VNC session into a new file. Was just a bit lazy with the name. Cheers.

btw - looks like your right. powerDVD is stuffed as well. I'll have to get that fixed up so it can play files properly. That will probably solve my black screen problems. See what working properly after that.

Sorry guys. Apologies. Checked the log, was the wrong one as suggested. Have attached zip of ALL the right ones.

Powerdvd now plays everything as normal, still black screen in PVRx2.
