I am using my old VGN-S360 sony laptop as my HTPC.

I will be using the sony docking station to house my laptop (BTW, the docking station does not contain a power on/off switch).

My problem is that this laptop is kept inside my media shelves and it is not possible to open the laptop and switch it on! Is there a way to switch on the laptop remotely? or any suggestions how I can switch on my laptop WITHOUT opening the screen?

Well if it was me I'd pull it appart and intercept the normal power switch and put an external one in, assuming that its not clever enough not to switch on if the lid is closed.

If the above does work then you could buy an IMON remote to switch it on.

You could try Wake on Lan and just put the machine to standby rather than full off.

I tried wake on LAN (WON). WON only works on wired networks not my wireless.

mce remote doesnt work either as laptops kill the power to usb when in standby aswell with no option not to (this is on the laptops i have here others may be different)

its looking like soldering a external power button is the only option i need a solution aswell and was hoping someone was going to come up with something better
