Issues with 1.3.7(fresh install)

I was having some issues with the last version of GB-PVR, so I uninstalled it and removed the DEVNZ directory before installing the new version. The first issue I had with the new version was that it didn't automatically start the config app when the install was done, nor did it start GBPVRTRay.exe. I rebooted, even though the installer didn't say to, and encountered my next issue.

Vista is blocking GBPVRTray.exe from starting at boot. An icon appears in the tray, saying that one of my startup programs was blocked, but it doesn't show the name of the program, just a "shield" icon. If I click on "open this program", GBPVRTray.exe starts just fine.

If I run PVRX2.exe, everything seems fine, except for the music library. When I try to access it, the screen briefly appears, but with no music files or folders shown, then drops back to the main menu. I am certain that the directory exists, it is "C:\Users\Public\Music".

I have attached all logs, with identifying info redacted.

It looks like its having a problem finding a usually-present windows component for finding where a lnk file points. For now, try removing any lnk files from your music library directory.

I'll put the install problems you had down to you being one of the very small percentage of users that encounter these sorts of problems with each install. If it had been a more general 1.3.7 problem, we'd have seen logs more reports.

OK, it turns out there was a shortcut to a folder on another computer, so I deleted it.

Any suggestions on how I can get Vista to stop blocking GBPVRTray.exe from starting at boot? It didn't block it with the previous version of GB-PVR.

I dont know, its not doing it here, and I've not seen any other reports of it. Maybe try running msconfig. Doesnt Vista have some tray icon that is shown if an app startup was blocked, giving you the option to allow it to start.

I ran into this before but I can't remember how I fixed it. I'll post if I remember how to do it.

Don't you have to change a setting to allow the tray to interact with the desktop? would this affect it? could it be a uac problem?

OK, in the previous version of GB-PVR I had installed, I found that GBPVRTray.exe could not stop or restart the recording service unless I set it to run as administrator(there was a .net error box saying "unhandled exception"). I did so, and Vista was happy to start it at boot time.

Prior to doing the fresh install of the latest version, I uninstalled GB-PVR AND wiped out the Devnz directory, which should have meant that the new install would have the default permissions, right? So, why did the new install set it to run as administrator, and why does Vista NOW refuse to start GBPVRTray.exe at boot time with it set to run as administrator? ARGH!!!! :eek:

I think my problems started back when I was tweaking the VideoProcAmp settings for my capture card, and got tired of having to edit direct.ini by copying it to another directory, editing the copy, then copying it back. Vista wouldn't let me save edited versions of direct.ini directly to the gbpvr folder. I followed some directions I found on the web, and took ownership of all the files in "C:\Program Files\Devnz\gbpvr", as well as all the subfolders under it. (anything worth doing is worth overdoing, right?) I just don't understand how those permissions are being recreated after uninstalling and deleting the previous files and folders.:confused:

It doesnt on a normaly install. I'm sure it'll be to do with you manually setting it to run as administrator in the past. (some left over Windows registry setting behind the scenes or something)

Maybe. I wouldnt have thought so though.
