rwalker777 Wrote:The cyberlink codec works (for both recordings and LiveTV), but it is NOWHERE near as good as the MPC-HC codec. I get around 50% cpu w/ the cyberlink and <10% with the MPC-HC codec. On really high end active movies it looks like the Cyberlink codec is dropping frames, something I don't have an issue with the MPC-HC codec.
It sounds like MPC-HC is using hardware acceleration features of the video card (which results in better picture and less CPU), but the Cyberlink decoder isnt. Some versions of the Cyberlink decoder require some registry settings to be added - try doing a forum search for the exact details.

rwalker777,

Try using CoreAVC decoder for video, and AC3Filter for audio. These are the filters I use and it works flawlessly.

CoreAVC does not have DXVA support which I need. I built my HTPC with the idea of hardware acceleration working (greatly lowers energy usage).

So this is what I am seeing (note this is all H264 HD content from the HD-PVR)...

Arcsoft - LiveTV works flawlessly (no problems at all). Recordings give me audio with no video.

Cyberlink - LiveTV has an extreme dropped frames issue after about 5 seconds of playback. It's as if the video is dropping every other frame while the audio is perfectly in sync. Recordings play fine (no delay or dropped frames).

rwalker777,

Side note: DXVA is not an energy saver. Instead of your CPU churning wattage, it's your graphic card's CPU. You probably meant "greatly lowers CPU usage".

While I understand why it makes sense to free your CPU of the burden of decoding HD media files, if you have a strong enough CPU, I suggest once again that your give CoreAVC and AC3Filter a shot. Believe me, I tried many filter combinations and CoreAVC with AC3Filter worked right away.

If you still want to use Arcsoft, you could try this : open GraphEdit, click on File->Render Media File... and select a recording (Colbert Report in your case) to be rendered. GraphEdit will show you the filter chain. You will then see which filters are used to play your recordings. Post a picture of this if you can.

I am not trying to get into an argument and I know you most likely have best intentions, but you are wrong. I am using a 780G based board which I can assure you sucks WAY LESS power than even my low power AMD X2 BE2350 processor. So it is most certainly a power savings. Here is a great example:

With onboard video, yes, I agree. I thought you had a discrete video card.
