You select different decoders on the playback tab of the config app. If the decoder you have install dont do a good job, you may need to install others.

Also why don't the menu option I change under the Plugin tab on Config stay. I uncheck several menu items and click Ok and when I open Config again they are all checked again.

Great I got sound working by changing Audio Decoder and Renderer!!

I tried all 4 Video Decoders ( Microsoft MPEG-2 Video Decoder; Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder; Nero Video Decoder; MPEG Video Decoder) but the video is still choppy.

What do you recommend for a video decoder on a Vista machine?

Thanks for all your help.

No, not really. In my experience how well the decoders work varies on lots of factors (broadcast source, machine hardware, video card drivers, operating system, directshow patches, video renderer etc...), so I dont bother giving decoder recommendations these days. Instead I just recommend people try a variety of of decoders, and go with whatever works well for them.

Of the ones you've listed, the Cyberlink decoder normally works well - the others dont. Maybe try this one http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPV_Decoder.htm
