Since a couple of weeks I am having problems with skipping. This is only a problem on the MVP, it seems okay on the pc.

When skipping forward and back the position of the video is not correct.
For example when skipping forward 1 minute forward and backward 1 minute I am not on the same position in the video.

Probably the only thing I changed on my pc about the time this problem started, was a game (racedriver grid). Unfortunately I am not sure about this and I can't set back a restore point from the time everything was still functioning okay because windows deleted most of my restore points (I read windows can do this when the designated memory for restore points has been used totally).

So, no drivers changed, no dongle changed, probably no windows update, and so on.
This problem happens when playing mpg-files, also with files months older than this problem.
I tried another driver (and the registry fix, including reboot), took the power off the MVP, reinstalled 1.3.11 (1.3.7 was installed at the time the problem started). Since the problem also exists with older files which have never had this problem, I don't think it's a timestamp problem.

In the log I read this, which seems to reflect the problem
(Skip forward 1=60s, skip backwards 1=30s):
...
Skipping forward: 2 (yes, I pushed "2" and "skip forward")
MVPSetPlaybackPosition() request to set position to: 125 seconds
...
Skipping forward: 3 (yes, I pushed "3" and "skip forward")
MVPSetPlaybackPosition() request to set position to: 310 seconds
...
Skipping back: 6 (yes, I pushed "6" and "skip backward")
MVPSetPlaybackPosition() request to set position to: 1 seconds
...

3 forward, followed by 6 backwards should be the same position ("125 seconds"), but it's not ("1 seconds").

Logs attached. Please help.

When you use the skip backwards I think the time base used is still minutes so when you hit 6 back it is 6 minutes back and not 6 * 30 seconds back as I think you are expecting.

This is part of my config file:

<!-- Misc Video Recording settings -->
<RecycleUSBUIRT>false</RecycleUSBUIRT>
<SkipInsteadOfFFRW>false</SkipInsteadOfFFRW>
<SkipInsteadOfFFRWSeconds>10</SkipInsteadOfFFRWSeconds>
<AudioSkipSeconds>10</AudioSkipSeconds>
<DefaultSkipSecondsForward>60</DefaultSkipSecondsForward>
<DefaultSkipSecondsBack>30</DefaultSkipSecondsBack>
<ManualSkipTimebase>Minutes</ManualSkipTimebase>

In GB"-PVR Configuration", "Skip Control", "Default forward skip size (seconds)"=60, "Default back skip size (seconds)"=30. So that's the same as in the config file.
I now notice the variable "Manual Skip timebase"=Minutes, is this what you mean? If this is the cause of my problem and I didn't change this, why did the problem start? Also, this just worked perfectly until a few weeks ago.

Forgot to mention I have got more problems with the MVP (besides occasional out of sync, which happens ever since I got Vista and the MVPMC dongle):
Every 5 minutes or so, the video hangs. I have to turn the MVP off and on again, sometimes 2 or 3 times before the program actually starts again (having trouble connecting or the program just won't start).
You can see this in the attached logs with this reply. The problems started between 20.30 en 21.15 yesterday (2009-05-04). The 2 problems are perhaps related?
I see a couple of times "ERROR Unexpected error sending frame: System.Net.Sockets.SocketException".

Martin,

About the skip problem: You can't imagine how embarressed I am. I never used the skip back until I was experimenting with it yesterday, so you were obviously right. Maybe to excuse myself: we got twins 9 weeks ago and we're getting out of bed 3 times each night since.

The other problem, the hanging of the playback, is real as you can see in the logs (thank god, I am not completely braindead). Can you help me with this?

Martin,

After the hang last night the MVP didn't get connection at all this morning. I took the power off the router and on again, MVP off the power and on again and the pc and on again.
At first sight it looks better: got connection again and skipping might be better:

Skipping forward: 3
MVPSetPlaybackPosition() request to set position to: 186 seconds

Skipping forward: 4
MVPSetPlaybackPosition() request to set position to: 430 seconds

Skipping back: 4
MVPSetPlaybackPosition() request to set position to: 193 seconds

I'm attaching the logs, just in case.

Hi,

So far, everything seems okay exept the out of sync issue. I think the other problems are solved by resetting the modem.

The sync problem: once in a while the movie stops while the sound goes on. Tried to get a log, but when I got around to check the logs, the log from the time of the out of sync incident was gone.
As soon as I catch one, I'll post the logs.

Tonight the out of sync problem occurred a number of times, the most obvious one at about 22.20 (2009-05-05). Just after the out of sync, I rewinded just a second (after which it's mostly in sync again).
Hope you can see something in the logs. I will try to get a better incident.

Sorry I don't thinks there's much point in sending logs for network or time line problems, I know because the MVP has such terrible networking I'm not going to bother looking into the problem. You might consider using the netsh command as Lindsay and I discussed here, it did seem to help both of us on Vista

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=32254

If that doesn't work you can try turning off mpvmc's a/v sync with the command line option --no-seek-sync Usually mvpmc is better than the hardware but not always.

Finally you could try lowering the bit rate of your analog recordings,

Martin,

The netsh command made it worse. However, I fixed some errors in gbpvr.db3 and reset the MVP once again. After that no more problems with skipping or out of sync. But then I did have a problem with the mvp not resuming at the correct position. That was also fixed after yet another reset (power off and on) of the mvp. Perhaps the mvp doesn't always reboot correct which causes problems?
