I already have a GBPVR server set up with 2 PVR-150s and 2 MVPs. I am thinking of putting a PVR-150 in my son's computer so he does not interfere with my 2 channels of recording<g>.

If that PC also runs the GBPVR MVP server, am I going to have a problem?

If so, any thoughts on exporting recorded shows from that PC to the PC running the MVP servers?

In case you wonder why I don't just add the 150 to the existing server, it only has the 2 PCI slots.

If you only have two PCI slots you might want to think about buying the WinTV-PVR-USB2 instead and that would give you FM Radio. Has the same Hardware Encoder found in the WinTV PVR-150. Speed is about the same. Cost a bit more but the rebate for it is $30 off.

Do you have a Router on your workgroup network at home? That would help you out a great deal or you can use switches instead of hub boxes. Well those are some ideas. It will work.

I'm confused. Are you suggesting that the 2nd PC record to the 1st server's hard drive? I don't see how it would perform well enough, and also don't see how it would update the database.

I know I can just copy the MPG files around between the boxes, but I was wondering about keeping the database in sync too.

You did not address the issue of 2 PCs both running the server for the MVPs. If the MVP detects 2 server PCs, will it offer a choice?

No router. I have 2 100mbps switches and a Sonicwall firewall connecting the network to the internet.

I don't think you'll be in luck with having two MVP servers running - assuming they're on the same network(subnet). As far as I know, the MVP will issue a broadcast, so it will just be down to whichever server responds the fastest as to which GB-PVR instance you connect to.

If you can split your network that should do the trick or maybe you can do some clever stuff with firewalls and MAC address filtering - don't ask me how though!
