Recording jumps x seconds during playback - WAF is dropping fast!

I have experimented with unplugging and immediatly re-plugging the ariel coax.

With DVR-MS the playback freezes for a second and then carries on as if niothing has happened.

With TS, the playback goes into fast foward for a random period. Each time I playback the amount of fast forward is different ... a few seconds on one play and a minute or so on another. Eventually the fast forward stops and normal playback is resumed.

This fast forward is not what I see when a glitch is caused by a problem in the broadcast stream. Then I get random jumps forward.

Would someone like to climb onto their roof and wave tinfoil in front of their ariel? I'm too old and nervous for that sort of lark.

Time for me to switch to DVR-MS I think. I've said that before and never gotten around to it, but if it will help with this problem then I'm sold.

I'm very happy with dvr-ms. I had a lot of trouble with signal strength when I initially set up my HVR-1600, but I've never seen a single skip or jump. Using dvr-ms also makes comskip work correctly (which is my #1 WAF consideration). The only thing I miss about .ts is multirecord.

I noticed the timeline jumped from 4.44 to 5.05 but the video stayed as it should have been. (playing as video library in gbpvr on PC).

Its odd - I dont see any visual disturbance at all watching this. I am using 1.4.x though, so at this stage I'm hoping the problem wont happen with the next release, which is due this week sometime.

I'll ask some of beta testers to give this file ago though, to see if they get the problem.

I'm curious if any 1.3.11 users running Windows 7 have tried (or can try) downloading McBainsUK and playing it? I'm wondering if there has been a change in the Microsoft demux in Windows 7 which is causing it to behave better around these jumps in stream timecode? It certainly seems to be playing well for me, but I'm using 1.4.x on Windows 7, so not a great comparison. As I'd like to think its 1.4.x thats fixed it, I suspect its more likely Windows 7 that is causing it to play smoothly.

ok, that confirms my suspicion. I dont have any immediate suggestions on how to get XP to behave a better in this respect, but I'll keep thinking about it.

Yes, they do happen in the live tv stream aswell, but its not a problem there due to a couple of differences in the way it works.
